Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Players assume control of Raiden, protagonist of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and supporting character in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. A key gameplay feature for the game is titled zan-datsu, which involves "cutting" through enemies and "taking" parts from the bodies of dismembered cyborgs and robots. Rising's stealth elements will emphasize Raiden's considerable speed and agility through what Matsuyama describes as "hunting stealth." Unlike the "waiting stealth" of previous titles, in which players remained hidden and avoided combat, players in Rising will instead quickly stalk their enemies and use acrobatic maneuvers to stay out of sight while closing in. This ties in with the game's zan-datsu feature, allowing them to prey upon enemies to obtain weapons, items, and energy.

  • Rising's stealth elements will emphasize Raiden's considerable speed and agility through what Matsuyama describes as "hunting stealth."
  • Gameplay will focus on two key elements: swordfighting, and a style of stealth that is more fast-paced and action-oriented.
  • "Cutting" entails sophisticated swordplay that lets players engage in third person melee combat, as well as precisely slash enemies and objects "at will" along a geometrical plane using a "free slicing" mode.

Product Description

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance for PlayStation 3 takes the series into a bold new direction, combining the stealth tactics and epic story-telling of Kojima Productions with the adrenalin-fuelled action of PlatinumGames.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is the latest thrilling chapter of the ever-expanding Metal Gear saga. Taking place four years after the events of Metal Gear Solid 4, the world of cyborg crimes and terrorism is the perfect place for Raiden to take the lead as he searches for the truth about his past while trying to uphold justice.

Raiden is working for Maverick Security, one of several Private Military Companies (or PMCs) that have sprung up in a world where cyborg technology has become commonplace. In the three years since the Patriots system collapsed, peace still remains elusive as cybernetics become a tradable commodity and renegade PMCs prove to be as corrupt as the former Patriots. Desperado Enterprices are one such PMC, and it is their involvement in terrorist activities that spurs Raiden's new tale on.

Raiden's story continues to evolve in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. As dedicated Metal Gear fans will know, he was a child soldier who was transformed into a cyborg ninja and equipped with a high-frequency katana blade. But he also carries another weapon - a soul fuelled by revenge. Raiden is playable in both his "White" form, as seen in Guns of the Patriots, and his new, more powerful "Black" cyborg armour.

With Raiden a different kind of hero to Solid Snake, so Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is a different kind of Metal Gear experience. Some of the key stealth elements remain (including the infmaous cardboard box!) but the focus is on high-energy, high-impact action, with a fast and fluid game style centred on Raiden's katana-based combat.

At the heart of this new hack-and-slash action is the new Zan Datsu cut mechanic. This skillful strike will allo

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome. 3 Mar 2013

If you're looking at the reviews you're probably wondering if this game is worth buying, so I'll be straightforward:

This is a MUST BUY if:
You like cyborgs/cybernetics
You like the ninja gaiden series
You are a fan of Kojima
You like swords
You like cutting things
You find Raiden cool

Don't buy if:
You expect this to be like the previous metal gear games. It's not.
(this is neither good nor bad) It's entirely different in every way.
Even the genre is different, so you cannot compare the two.
You don't want to spend a decent amount of money on a game that doesn't
last very long.

For me it was an excellent buy, 'cause I'm a fan of all the things mentioned in the 'must buy' section. This is a game of flawless action, fast moves, beautiful design, and spectacular fights, especially the boss fights are simply AMAZING. And it's worth mentioning that the soundtrack is EPIC. The combination of the background music with what is actually happening on screen results in PURE AWESOMENESS. Too bad this game doesn't last long. The main story is not long, it's just ok in length. The camera was a bit problematic but only at 2-3 situations, it's nothing. So the only negative elements worth mentioning is its relatively short length, and a side-effect that gave me at least, the urge to cut/smash/rip things on the real world..
Such an exciting game. Get it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Meh.. shouldn't have the Metal Gear title at all 26 Jan 2014
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3|Verified Purchase
Firstly, I must say that I'm a huge Metal Gear fan. I've been following the MGS series for a long time, and the reason I am a fan of the series, first and foremost, is the brilliant story/narrative and the themes explored, but everything in Metal Gear - the characters, the humour, the gameplay, and everything is what makes the series what it is, and it is what makes it unique.

Metal Gear RISING is something almost completely different. The title tells us that, it's not Metal Gear SOLID. It's not even the same sort of game. It's a slash-em-up with very basic stealth elements which features Raiden, of MGS2 infamy, as the main character in a post-MGS4 world now working in a PMC. The main story itself isn't interesting, really. Nor are the characters, in fact most of them are downright terrible, and the themes/setting of the game are just.. bizarre, and farfetched, even by Metal Gear's standards, it crosses over into the futuristic sci-fi territory, far more than any MGS game ever did. In actual fact it feels like a parody of Metal Gear more than anything.

The enemies.. they're all cyborgs, you gotta slash them up. All the bosses... yup, cyborgs too. The "Metal Gear" in this game is bigger and more fierce looking than ever. There's only two characters in this game which were in any of the Metal Gear Solid games, most of the characters are new, and just bizarre.

I haven't played this game since I purchased it a while ago and have already forgotten most of it. If this was called something else I honestly would never have bothered playing it.

The only saving grace for this game is the quality of the Codec conversations, surprisingly, an area where MGS4 completely failed.

As a huge fan of the Metal Gear franchise (owning all the games on every platform), I can say this is NOTHING like the others.

Game play 9/10: This is probably the main category which makes this game so enjoyable, the fact you can cut anything in your path. The movement are very fluid and very easy to get used to on the get go, the only problem is the blocking feature however if you are having trouble then play on easy with assist and blocking will not be an Issue. It is extremely satisfying to slice your opponent into many small pieces after a great parry or simply cut them right through the middle to snatch away their life source to regain them for yourself. You also have an AR Mode which is like an X-ray vision to locate key locations/enemies/treasure which gives a slight stealth based game play, however there is hardly any sneaking in the game.

Story 4/10: Sadly this does not at all live up to the Metal Gear franchise, story is quite bland, boring and not at all engaging. You stop caring for the characters and you just want the movie to end so you can continue slicing the enemies up; You meet a few familiar faces which is refreshing and some new which don't really last that long or give you enough background to really care. I completed the game on hard difficulty in "4 HOURS!" the game is extremely short; they should have made the game at least 10 hours long. Fair enough compared to other MG games the cut scenes do not last that long and there is more game play involved. I really enjoyed the final show done, but some chapters you can complete within 3-5 minutes and there are only 7 chapters.

1.0 out of 5 stars An embaressment to the Metal Gear name 15 April 2014
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3|Verified Purchase
Coming from a big mgs fan, I was severly disappointed by this pathetic excuse for a videogame, the game is set after the events of mgs4 in which all wars were ended and Raiden clearly ceased to being a cyborg ninja, it therefore has no logical place being in the Metal Gear timeline despite apparently being canon

The gameplay is a straight rip off of ninja gaiden with a camera which appears to have adhd, constantly changing direction mid battle while off screen enemies tear you to pieces. The graphics are even worse than mgs4 despite coming out 4 years prior. You would think the battlefield would have evolved some what yet there are still plenty of recycled enemies gekkos and mg rays. Metal Gear is known for it's deeply emotional and memerable cutscenes, there's none of that here, only b movie voice acting with dialogue probably written by a 8 year old and generic cheesy action music.

The few throwbacks to mgs saga such as the scripted alert sequences and hearing Raiden's name screamed when you die only serves as a total slap in the face at the thought of this garbage title bearing any relation to the Metal Gear franchise.
