8 Piece Traditional Metal Boules with Jack
Although widely played in France and often considered to be a French game, Boules (or Petanque) started in different parts of the world at more or less the same time. The game was originally played with cannon balls which were often stacked on gravel. Bored soldiers would throw the cannon balls on the gravel and thus the game arose spontaneously wherever there were cannons.
Due to the difficulty these days in locating cannon balls we bring you this lovely set of 8 shiny, heavy, metal balls and 'jack' in a foam lined wood case, complete with carrying handle. If you are unable to supply your own gravel this game may be played on grass, sand (take it on holiday and play on the beach), driveways etc.
The game is played in teams of two, with one, two or three players in a team. The jack (or cochonnet) is thrown first, then players from each team take it in turns to try and throw their boule closest to the jack. This is a simplified version of the rules, which are included in the box! And just in case there are any arguments over which boule is closest, there is also a string measure in the box
