Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

People are unique in more ways than we can see. Stomachs and other internal organs come in many different shapes and sizes. Digestive juices, too, can vary dramatically from one person to another. Thus, according to author William Linz Wolcott, founder of Healthexcel, a company that provides metabolic typing for individuals, it stands to reason that different foods have very different effects on different people.

Wolcott believes that tailoring your diet to your body's particular quirks--metabolic typing--will improve digestion, circulation, immunity, energy and mood. To determine your type, he has you take a 65-question test (the questions range from nose moisture to how you feel about potatoes),then place yourself in one of three categories: protein type, carbo type or mixed type.

The protein type is instructed to eat a diet that's 40 percent protein, 30 percent fat and 30 percent carbs. The carbo type gets 60 percent carbs, 25 percent protein and 15 percent fat. And the mixed type should consume 50 percent carbs, 30 percent protein and 20 percent fat, although this type has to play with the ratios a little more to find the optimal mix.

Although The Metabolic Typing Diet is based on information from researchers the majority of the public will never have heard of, Wolcott makes a strong case that it's all based on common sense: Most of the dietary problems we have come from ignoring the foods that make us feel satisfied and energetic in favour of ones that we feel we're supposed to eat, or foods that we eat in desperation because our last meal left us hungry or lethargic. If we just eat the foods that make us feel right, Wolcott argues, we'll never feel like things have gone horribly wrong. --Lou Schuler --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Product Description

Customize Your Diet to Your Own Unique Body Chemistry

For hereditary reasons, your metabolism is unique. Cutting-edge research shows that no single diet works well for everyone–the very same foods that keep your best friend slim may keep you overweight and feeling unhealthy and fatigued. Now, William Wolcott, a pioneer in the field of metabolic research, has developed a revolutionary weight-loss program that allows you to identify your "metabolic type" and create a diet that suits your individual nutritional needs.

In The Metabolic Typing Diet, Wolcott and acclaimed science writer Trish Fahey provide simple self-tests that you can use to discover your own metabolic type and determine what kind of diet will work best for you. It might be a low-fat, high carbohydrate diet filled with pasta and grains, or a high-fat, high-protein diet focused on meat and seafood, or anything in between. By detailing exactly which foods and food combinations are right for you, The Metabolic Typing Diet at last reveals the secret to shedding unwanted pounds and achieving optimum vitality with lasting results.

The Metabolic Typing Diet will enable you to:
Achieve and maintain your ideal weight
Eliminate sugar cravings
Enjoy sustained energy and endurance
Conquer indigestion, fatigue, and allergies
Bolster your immune system
Overcome anxiety, depression, and mood swings

5.0 out of 5 stars A book everyone in the NHS should read and act on!, 27 Feb 2004

This review is from: The Metabolic Typing Diet (Paperback)
I came across this book when I was searching for information on metabolism. Mine had shut down. I was gaining 1 kg a month without gym, 1/2 kg with gym. I was sleeping through the day as well as through the night. I had no energy whatsoever, and it was quite clear that my food was not fuelling me as it should. Yet my blood tests and thyroid levels were all quite normal. I bought the book and did the self test. I came out as a protein type. So I stopped eating my controlled calorie low fat diet and started on red meat, cream, butter, oil. What a turnaround. I now stay awake all day! I can actually do things without needing a three hour nap! I've even lost a very small amount of weight, but that fades in importance compared to the improvement in energy. Your internal metabolism not only controls how you react to the food you eat, but also to vitamins, minerals, and other supplements. I don't know how anyone can be a nurse, a doctor or a dietician without knowing this stuff. I think a regular metabolic typing test ought to be compulsory for everyone. Regular? Yes. Your metabolism can change, especially when you start feeding it the right food. There's a lot more to this book than just the self-test, and it's all worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 19 May 2009

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, lots of very interesting information and all made a lot of sense. I wasn't sure about eating only certain kinds of foods but in saying that there is so much choice to choose from so that wasn't a problem after all. So far I can really see the results of following the nutrition and I have heaps of energy so for me the book is excellent, no calorie counting or portion sizings just eat the recommended foods for your type until you are satisfied, easy!!! I would recommend this book to anyone not wanting a so called restricted diet, just one that is very easy to follow

5.0 out of 5 stars the best few pounds I've spent in years!, 4 Dec 2002
This review is from: The Metabolic Typing Diet (Paperback)
Anyone interested in health and fitness should obtain a copy of this book! I am fascinated by nutrition and constantly working with my clients to achieve the best results possible. Many people reading this will be familiar with the good old food pyramid detailing the proportions of the various nutrients we should eat daily. To be honest, I was never totally convinced by this 'one size fits all' approach. Metabolic Typing offers the chance to easily tailor a person's nutrition based on their individuality. Enjoy!
