I bought this as a quick and easy holiday read, and accidentally started to read it before I went away, it was finished within days. And has since been passed on to numerous people. It is probably one of the most gruesome books I have ever read, and this is echoed in everyone else's opinions. But don't let this put you off, it is written brilliantly, and really does drag you in. It will leave you trapped until you finish it (this won't take long). The characters are there, the plot, the heart stopping moments. It's got everything! The only problem, it had to end! If you're going to pick a good psychological thriller, and feel like reading a one-off that isn't by the likes of James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell (as good as they are), and crew then read this. You will not regret it. Amazing!

I bought this and made the mistake of starting it at about 10am.... 8 hours later and with not much done, I had finished! It's been ages since I read such a page-turner!

Without giving too much away, there are loads of different theories running through the book, most of which end up as dead ends, even though the ending is inevitable, it leaves you feeling a bit breathless. Clever and witty, it's well worth the cover price, although you might want to set aside a day or two!

afterthought: my boyfriend reads ian banks and stuff like sceptisicm inc (by bo something) and he thought he'd hate this book, but he read the first chapter and got hooked. He did stop to sleep in the middle of reading it though. I normally read Dean Koontz and science books so make of that what you will!

I loved it - such a page-turner I read it over a day and a half. Unlike the other reviewer here I didn't get who it was, and was led down many blind alleys. The ending is completely brilliant - the most well written part of the whole book. I gave this to my fiance when we went away on holiday - and he was so engrossed in it he didn't pay me any attention for 3 days. I agree with the James Patterson analogy but found Messiah more intelligent, and it was great to read something of that genre set in London. More please!

Hail to Messiah
I can't remember where I picked this up. It was a while before the TV adaptation anyway. I do remember remarking what a brilliant screenplay it would make. Read more
