5.0 out of 5 stars Stott's Treatment of John's Letters is Top Notch 6 July 2013
By Decent Joe - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Stott provides an wonderful piece that is excels in both solid scholarship as well as practical and pastoral application. Unquestionably, there are sections in which he is quiet technical, particularly when dealing with issues of language. But he never becomes lost there, each time he emerges with rich treasure for his labor and so will you. If you have been limited to more devotional or applicable style commentaries Stott's handling of John's Letters is a sweet place to begin a transitional is a more substantive and robust commentaries.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thorough 14 Nov 2013
By Lisa Miller - Published on Amazon.com

Very thorough, Stott writes for the reader who wants to know all the angles of interpretation and hear them argued. I have four commentaries, and this is my favorite.

4.0 out of 5 stars Organized and Thorough 5 Feb 2013
By Madoc - Published on Amazon.com
The Anglican minister John Stott's excellent book The Epistles of John is a fine read for the beginning Bible student. He begins each section with an overview, and then dives into a deep analysis of each individual verse. When not analyzing a particular verse, he often leaves the study of the epistles themselves to discuss a relevant theological point, while taking into consideration various competing views. Although dry at times, the information he presents is most valuable, and his method is effective. I read the book for less than thirty minutes a day and finished it in a month.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Commentary... 15 Sep 2008
By Josh Sullivan - Published on Amazon.com
Stott is a great theologian. I am only in the introduction and overwhelmed. He takes great care to understand the Gospel of John. We need more theologians and pastors willing to care for the Word of God (because it is the Word of God).
