I lose it when you hear a good DJ toasting/chanting over a solid dubwise track. This delivers 100%.

An absolutely killer Prince farI and Arabs collaboration.
Solid tracks laid by the Arabs and Fari in typically stupendous form.

This for me rates massively alongside Long life, Psalms For I, Under Heavy manners, Cry Tuff Dub Encounter series as works of pure genius.

long live King cry cry. Never ever forgotten!!

Michael "Prince Far I" Williams is a polarizing 'love-him-or-hate-him' figure of the 70's Jamaican reggae scene. His sonorous, booming, almost-spoken delivery is the complete opposite of the energetic, acrobatic rhyming styles of contemporary deejays such as Dillinger or Tapper Zukie. Indeed, Far I thought of himself more as a 'chanter' or 'preacher' than a deejay.

"Message From The King" is the Prince's third album, and, in my view, his greatest overall work. This is his first self-produced album; crafting new, original rhythms with the nucleus of what would become the Roots Radics band, instead of having to chat over other producers already existing tracks. This is also his first collaboration with British producer and engineer Adrian Sherwood, whom he would go on to create the outstanding and acclaimed "Cry Tuff Dub Encounter" albums with.
This new sense of creative freedom and adventurousness suits Far I, and he comes across on this album both more fervently authoritative than ever before; but also more relaxed and playful also.

Opening title track "MESSAGE FROM THE KING" is a stunning roots track with a buoyant fast 'rockers' beat, lyrical trumpet and a wonderful sung chorus by Joseph Hill of Culture ("Black reggae music is a message from the king"). Hill's melodic chorus and Far I's growled religious proclamations combine perfectly and create a crossover between Far I's deep dubby appeal, and roots reggae's more melodious sensibilities.

The same crossover happens on track 9 "WISDOM": a 'well-dread' rumbling reggae rhythm with dramatic horn riffs and sung accompaniment by an unknown singer.

The WHOLE Prince Far I album 25 Nov. 2005
By Jasper - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Frontline put out a cd called "Black Man Land" some years back mixing two Prince Far I LPs, "Message From The King" and "Livity." Annoyingly, Frontline did not include either album in its entirety. The excellent "Livity" was missing but one track, while "Message From The King" was missing three. This is not acceptable. Finally "Message From The King" came out as a whole disc. As far as I can tell, the brilliant "Livity" is still only available in its shortened form on "Black Man Land."

Long story short, this is the only way to get all of the "Message From The King" tracks on one cd, and having been mastered from the original tapes, they are well worth it. The Prince worked to give us a cohesive listening experience, and all of his LPs are worth enjoying in their complete forms with the original track listings. Frontline has done well putting out the whole Prince Far I LP "Long Life" (it's great, get it!), and "Messgae From The King." I now await the release of "Livity" in its entirety...

My favorite CD by the Prince 11 Aug. 2006
By Indian music lover - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I already had the Black Man Land compilation, which contains some but not all of the tracks found on this CD. When I learned about Message from the King, I knew I had to have it because I wanted to hear the album as originally envisioned by Prince Far I. It is really one of the great releases to come out Jamaica. My favorite track is Commandment of Drugs, where he berates users of hard drugs and cheerfully extolls the virtues of marijuana, declaring that he prefers " the J-Stuff. The Jamaican Stuff - Lambs Bread. Or... the Columbia Gold." (You have to hear how the words, "Columbia Gold" roll off his tongue to understand why I enjoy this part so much.) The combination of the over-the-topic text, the growl of his voice as an instrument unto itself, the totally spaced-out guitar accents, and rumbling bass make this a reggae classic.

Foggy Road is almost at the same level thanks to the beautiful cadence of the Prince's voice during the spoken narrative and then the rolling, song-song rhythm of the refrain.

This is a must for any lover of truly original music, regardless of genre.

See my other review of Prince Far-I's
Heavy Manner's Anthology.Great voice.
Too bad he's left us.
Too many reggae greats have prematurely gone.
It is an experience not unlike Charlton Heston's on Mt. Sinai!
Far-I gives James Earl Jones a run for his money.

I'm very satisfied with my purchase; the album was just like I've expected it to be, so I'll definitely recommend this seller to anyone shopping online because I had a great experience, I'm sure anyone else will too.
