I've never seen "The belly of an architect", I came upon this soundtrack when somebody lent me a collection of Mertens' work that included "Struggle For Pleasure" which took my breath away; after that I bought the album. Listening to it without having any idea of the context in which the songs were placed did not affect my enjoyment of it a single bit. It's a marvellous album, it has all the feeling and power we've come to expect of Mertens, and yet it's different somehow, probably the synths adding something new to the mixture. In any case, with or without the movie, this is a wonderful album, (a note, it's 98% keyboards with just a touch of brass that might or might not have been synthesized) a number of songs follow a theme and some may find these repetitive, personally I adore the variations. If you like classical music, and Mertens in particular, jump right in.
