Product Description

Product Description

Many books about the rock industry are written by ghost writers - this is a refreshing change. This book features the words of Ian McNabb a Liverpool singer-songwriter who has had his fair share of ups and downs. A book from the heart about his art. It s a compelling journey into the music industry and this witty writer knows when to hit all the right buttons. Ian deserves a number one with this work in the best seller chart. Appealing to musicians everywhere and those who want to go back stage with a unique access all areas pass. Merseybeast: A Musical memoir This is a book for anyone who ever wanted to know what happens when you (almost) get every thing you ever wanted. Written by one of the most articulate of rock stars Ian McNabb chronicles his life with a clarity seldom seen in such musical insights. A stunning collection of photographs and anecdotes from his own very personal collection add plenty of colourful imagery. There are hilarious moments throughout and poignant ones too as Ian takes the reader on a rollercoaster ride with him reflecting along the way on family, friends, success and failure. What is it it like playing in tiny clubs then big international festivals? Rubbing shoulders with gobal superstars? Merseybeat gives some of the answers. BBC star Janice Long supplies the foreword. Features in Trinity Mirror s Own Titles and across the digital platforms. Interviews, signing sessions and competitions as well as radio interviews on national and local BBC Radio Merseyside and City Talk, Liverpool. Press interviews with national and provinvial media across all platforms. The books will be sold at Ian s many gigs at home and abroad. There are personal appearances, signings and Q & As. Ian is also performing unplugged sets to promote his autobiography.

About the Author

Ian Mcnabb is one of the finest singer-songwriters Britain has produced over the past twenty-five years. He was a founder member of the band Icicle Works From his innocent first steps into the music business via the working men s social clubs in the mid 70s to his success on the world stage in the 80s and beyond, join him on a rock and rollercoaster ride. Told to the reader as though they were sitting down over drinks with the author, this is an exhilarating, exciting, frequently hilarious account of his hits and misses, written with a refreshing frankness. McNabb is a Mercury Prize nominated artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Candid, honest and an excellent read, 2 Dec 2008
I was intrigued from the moment I heard that Ian McNabb was to publish his memoirs and put in my pre-order straight away. After the big bang impact of Punk in the late Seventies there were very few bands that grabbed my attention in the Eighties apart from The Icicle Works (& The Alarm). I have been a fan of Ian's music ever since (Group & Solo) and so reading the backdrop to his career was a very familiar path in one sense but filled in all the gaps of life behind the scenes. Merseybeast reflects on a number of key themes from the 80's Liverpool scene to the sudden hit record and fame & life on the road to the disappointment in not being able to capitalise on success and then of the slog in establishing a solo career. In between it is intriguing to learn about the dynamics of how a band comes together and why it eventually splits as well as just how hard it is to grab a firm foothold for success in the world of music. There are some great anecdotes throughout - I especially loved the Joe Walsh (Eagles) episode and the very brief mention of Steve Coogan. Even if you are not familiar with Ian's work, Merseybeast makes for a great read (& then hopefully you will go and discover what a fantastic musician he is through a superb back catalogue). If you are already a fan then you really do get to know the story behind the songs and the fact that Ian is not actually a `soppy romantic' after all.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUSICAL MEMOR OF A LIVERPOOL MUSIC GENIUS, 15 Oct 2008
By Mr. R. E. Aird "EFC" (Liverpool,Uk) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
A honest book about the ups and downs of a Liverpool music genius. It will have you laughing and crying. An essential read. In a world of plastic pop stars like cold play and the brit pop brigade; it's a crime why this guy is not a household name. Buy blind, head like a rock or any of his albums and you will agree.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read it and believe it., 25 Nov 2008
If you have ever had the honour of meeting and even slightly getting to know this man, you will know how good this book is before opening the cover. He may not be the man you want to invite around to meet your mum and he may not be a man you want to meet a second time, but one thing is for sure, your life will be richer for having met him.
Ian tells it like it is, be ready to be shocked, be ready to be in stitches. Ian has many stories to tell and how he tells them.
A great read and it made me reach for the CD rack to put on 'A Party Political.....' the Cd he was touring when I briefly got to know him and laugh along with some of his stories.
Its been a while now, since those fun filled nights, but I remember them well.
