'The Greatest Christmas Single Of All Time' says the blurb on the front of the single and it is, indeed, a great Christmas single! I first bought this in 1973 in the week it was released and I've done the same thing in 2006. I wonder if it'll get to No 1 again?

It's been re-mastered as part of the current cycle of re-mastering and re-releasing all of SLADE's music and it sounds fresh and clean again. It's backed with 'Cum On Feel The Noize', a great single from the glory days, released earlier in the same year as 'Merry Xmas Everybody'.

You've heard this song hundreds of times every Christmas since 1973 but it sounds so much better blasting out of your own speakers. Go on, you know you want to ... buy it and play it loud!

It's hard to believe that Slade's perennial favourite Merry Xmas Everybody is over 30 years old. Timeless music that now spans generations of people, it can still be heard playing nationwide at Christmas time; in pubs and clubs, shopping centres and supermarkets, the general public never seem to tire of singing the lyrics or humming the tune. Yet since Slade lasted appeared in the single charts about 15 years ago, it's difficult to know whether younger people will actually be able to name the band who originally wrote and sang what must be the greatest Christmas song ever. So here's the best available opportunity the put the record straight on the matter. Buy it and enjoy the festive period knowing that Slade are back where they belong, in the 2006 singles chart. Maybe, just maybe, a much deserved resurgence in the band's music will follow in 2007 too.
