Having bought and reviewed Mariah's first Christmas album, I expected that this album would be a similar type of album. So it proved, as it features another mix of Christmas classics and originals that Maria co-wrote with others. Three songs from the first album re-appear here in a different form, these being Santa Claus is coming to town (this time only as a brief intro to open the album), O holy night (here as a live version) and a re-recording of All I want for Christmas is you (described as extra festive).

The new songs that Mariah wrote for this album are Oh| Santa!, Christmas time is in the air again, When Christmas comes and One child, which are all excellent though I'll be pleasantly surprised if any of them becomes a big hit single. Indeed, maybe Mariah acknowledges that by her decision to include a new version of All I want for Christmas is you. However, I found the other original songs on Mariah's first Christmas album to be most enjoyable and the four new songs here are up to their standard.

One obvious change from her first Christmas album is that most of the Christmas classics are paired in medleys, but being only two-song medleys, you hear plenty of each featured song. However Charlie Brown Christmas (rarely recorded) and Auld Lang Syne appear in full on their own.

This album is unlikely to change anybody's mind about Mariah Carey, but she has plenty of fans around the world is this album is clearly for them first and foremost. I am not a diehard fan of Mariah's, but I do appreciate her ability as singer, as songwriter and as an interpreter of other people's songs. I have no hesitation in recommending this album to anybody who also enjoys at least some of her earlier music.

I'll admit first I am not a huge Mariah fan. I do not own any of her full albums... just a few of her bigger hits. I don't doubt she is an extremely amazing vocalist but when I see her music videos I can't help but think far too much effort goes into 'looking good'. I look at her latest music video for 'Oh Santa' and just find it incredibly distracting how much effort goes into hiding the fact she is pregnant.

Likeability factor aside this a really great festive offering. I was persuaded to get this by the Amazon 'Friday 5' mp3 offer and my love of Christmas pop music. I'm glad I got it though. Will she ever top the brilliance of 'All I Want For Christmas Is You'? Unlikely... but Mariah can definitely do the 'Christmas album' like no other. 'Oh Santa' starts it all off nicely... then there are plenty of pleasing traditional numbers ('Oh Little Town of Bethlehem', 'The First Noel/Born is the King and 'O Come All Ye Faithful') and more modern including an R'n'B working of 'Here Comes Santa Claus'. There is even a nice nod to her first Christmas album with a live version of 'Oh Holy Night' proving she really can hit those squeaky high notes in person. Not sure how I feel about the dance take on 'Auld Lang Syne'... one to decide for yourself! 'All I Want For Christmas' has little changed to it... I would have loved to see something completely new done with it. Perhaps an acoustic, stripped down version with just piano. No qualms including it though, it is a Christmas classic after all.

If it's that time of year and you love listening to Christmas music by popular artists you are going to love this. I hope many of you will agree that Mariah should have more faith in her amazing vocals rather than worry if the wind machine is at the best angle possible. Happy holidays to all!

This is definitely not a festive album to miss.
It definitely lives up to the quality of the original Merry Christmas (1994) album she released.
In my opinion it has some of the best vocals Mariah has delivered since the 90s.
I would recommend that you buy the Deluxe Edition as it does come with an extra DVD of the Making of the Album and it delivers interesting details of the work Mariah put into the album and the people she worked with. Also this is as Pop as Mariah has gone for the past decade. A lot of fans of the 90s Mariah will definitely feel something for this!

The Postman arrived with one Xmas Cracker today! This album is sensational.
I'm Atheist but, it don't matter 'cos Mariah brings us her gift of singing and this year is one heck of a Xmas surprise! From the moment I put the CD on, I had to stop my filming of a Barbering DVD I'm producing and listen to one fabulous track after another.
After we've lost Michael Jackson and other great artists such as Elvis & Sinatra, we are so lucky to have someone as gifted as Mariah. Some of her singing actually reminded me of Michael Jackson singing when he was young. Listen and see if you agree.
I know there are many jealous haters out there but, put your spiteful claws away, sit back and enjoy this sensational gift from Mariah. One day she will be old like the rest of us will get, until then give her thanks for sharing her gift because she doesn't have to.
Track 9 was a surprise and I really enjoyed the addition of a bit of Operatic!
When you get to track 10, you will be blown away. It is just out of this world. It's Mariah singing 'Oh Holy Night' live and, she is unbelievable. I've seen this on Youtube and I've never heard anyone sing like this. The next track is a beautiful one called 'One Child'. It's the epitome of the season and will appeal to the religious. It's beautifully sung and takes 'ya back to childhood when the you may have lived in the dream reality of the festive moments. I did with my brothers and sisters.
I teach music on Youtube (Topdoginuk) so, I appreciate Mariah's brilliance and gift she shares.
I recommend this album (I got the Deluxe version that includes a DVD. I've not watched it yet.)Get it before it sells out.
Last but not least, the last track on the album will get you having a right 'ol knees up on New Years Eve-Day. It's fantastic!
Congratulations to Mariah on a sensational production and, thank you.
