By Peter Durward Harris #1 HALL OF FAMETOP 50 REVIEWER on 17 Nov. 2002
Format: Audio CD
Some people seem to be inspired when recording Christmas albums, rising above their previous performances to record the best album of their career. I knew Cyndi was good at what she did, but had never bought any of her music until I bought this after reading some reviews. I sensed, even without hearing any tracks, that this might be one of the best Christmas albums in the history of recorded music, and I was right.
Cyndi clearly enjoys Christmas - it shows in these songs. Who could resist Cyndi's invitation to Do the Christmas conga? I also enjoyed the amusing Minnie and Santa, but all the new songs are brilliant, including Early Christmas morning, which comes complete with children's choir, used effectively and well.
Cyndi has also covered a few old chestnuts - her version of Rockin' around the Christmas tree and other classics breathes new life into them, while paying respect to the originals. Although I could have done without yet another version of Silent night, Cyndi proves here that she has the skill to do the serious stuff just as well as the fun songs. Among the other serious songs, it is particularly pleasing to see that she covered In the bleak midwinter. This is a Christmas standard in Britain, but it's rare to hear it sung by an American. Her version of this song is pure magic - as good as any version I've come across.
This album is truly one of the finest Christmas albums I have ever come across in any genre of music, and you can enjoy it either as background music, or in peace and quiet giving it undivided attention. I have since bought (and enjoyed) some of Cyndi's other music, but this is something special.
You do not need to be a Cyndi fan to enjoy this, but you might become a Cyndi fan after hearing it.

The sixth album from Cyndi Lauper, is a seasonal album which also touches many emotions. It opens with 'Home on Christmas day' which is the best single on the album. It touches on the joy..and lonelyness that Christmas can bring. Although there were no single releases from this album in the UK, this doesn't mean the quality is any less. The 'Christmas conga' will have you and your family dancing around the Christmas tree, kicking your legs in the air! There's a couple of traditional ones..3 ships, and an atmostpheric silent night, and a very good 'December child' which talks of the joy of motherhood... Finally in Cyndi's true style, there's 'Minnie and Santa' a wacky tale of how her friend ran off with Santa Claus, stockings and all. So, it's all here. Sadness, happiness, lonelyness and also the special joy that Christmas brings. Very well put together.

This album out does any artists attempts to make a christmas album. The openning song 'home on christmas day' sets the standard for the cd.

Home on Christmas day - 10/10 - Fantastic song, great to listen to on christmas eve before the full celebrations. A song to get you in the mood for christmas.

Early christmas morning - 10/10 - Another great christmas song and should have been the single to the album. I would have loved to see a video for this.

Rocking around the christmas tree - 8/10 - Great for partys

Christmas Conga - 10/10 - Cyndi really knows how to have fun

Minnie and Santa - 10/10 - Personal favourite, great story telling song.

Feels like christmas - 9/10 - Great music, instantly catchy song.

Three ships - 7/10 - Cyndis take on this classic tune

New Years Baby - 8/10 - Featuring her sons first vocal. Lovely tune.

December Child - 10/10 - When i first heard this i thought it was a cover. Its not but it just sounds like a classic chrsitmas song.

In the bleak mid winter - 10/10 - Lovely song for those cold winter evenings by the fire. The guitar is beautiful.

Silent Night - 10/10 - the best version of silent night i have ever heard.

Buy this album now, you wont be dissapointed. Enjoy your christmas and have fun with this cd...

this is my favourite christmas album of all time!!!

miss lauper has always treaded the tightrope of wacky and deep sencerity and no more so on this album!

its not a mish mash of old christmas toons..though there are a few of them...silent night...in the bleak midwinter..three ships.

but miss lauper hits the top of the tree with her new cheeky christmas numbers like...christmas conga and minnie and santa!

if like me you like a bit of the desperate cyndi...its delivered in droves...home on christmas day(i drove all night with bells!) new years baby(time after time!) and december child(true colours)

ive had the album since the original release and it comes out every year.....it is the only album you need for the festive season...beleive me!
