Product Description

Product Description

Shortlisted for the 2012 Kidwelly eBook Award.
Set at the start of the millennium, this is a story of how ordinary people’s lives are changed forever when they become central to the ambitions of the underworld. Jake Furner is Merry Baker, an American, living a simple life in a small seaside town in the north of England. Marcus Fieldhouse is happily married and owns an IT company in Docklands. Bad luck plays its hand and their lives are changed forever.
Jake and Marcus are dragged into a world of violence when they are needed as part of a sophisticated computer hack which will steal millions of pounds from online bank accounts.
The story takes a journey into the psyche of the gangsters; what turned them into the men they have become? Love, fear, hate and revenge are common themes and as the book unfolds so do the dark secrets of their pasts and the effects that the uncovering of these secrets have on the present.

2.0 out of 5 stars Needs a ruthless editor 13 Mar 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Having enjoyed the author's other books it was disappointing to see that this book is much less polished and less thought through. There are huge holes in the storyline, the dialogue is monotonic and unbelievable and there are grammatical and spelling mistakes on every page.

It feels like an unfinished, unedited earlier work being released to capitalize on his recent success. The general plot could be salvaged so I would suggest withdrawing it and spending some time rewriting the bulk of it.

A great read, recommended by a friend. Really enjoyed it from start to finish, and it does keep going right until the end. I will certainly follow on and recommend it to my friends.

1.0 out of 5 stars Churning out Rubbish. 18 Feb 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Although I have enjoyed Steven Robinson's previous books with a Geneological theme, I am very disappointed with this latest offering. I have several points of complaint.
Firstly, there are so many type errors that it is distracting and shows that it was not properly proof-read.
Secondly, the characters are as thin as tissue paper and are quite unbelievable. No effort seems to have been made to make them at all convincing or even consistent.
Thirdly, the amount of sadistic aggression poured into the book, perhaps in an effort to make up for the poor plot, is offensive and pointless.
I am sorry to say that Steven seems to have used up the talent he had in his first books and is now just churning out rubbish. I wont be reading any more of his books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Follow the recommendations! 7 Jan 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This popped up on my list of recommendations and I thought I would give it a try, not being entirely won over by the overview. I'm glad I did. Jefferson Tayte's world is never dull - and the story took a totally different direction to that I was expecting. Struggled to put it down!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic read 3 July 2012
By Jess F
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this book, it had me hooked from the first page. The characters were excellent and I can see it as a Guy Ritchie film with Ray Winstone in the role of Swift. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

This is a great book which had me gripped from the second chapter onwards as it gets increasingly imaginative. A perfecty plausible story, with plausible characters, that span from normal business people to the east end under world through to the master minding of complex computer fraud- but I don't want to spoil the story for you -its a great read!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I thought it would be. 8 Jun 2014

Whilst there was a cyber crime theme, there was too much violence for my liking which took the edge of the book's enjoyment.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read
I enjoyed this book.

It may not be the best story in the world, but not all stories can be - what we have is a readable story with a good plot, that's well delivered.

1.0 out of 5 stars Is Steven Robinson the same as "Steve Robinson" the genealogical...
Bought this because I thought it was by "Steve Robinson" - but it can't be for all the reasons others have made - badly written, badly proof read etc etc. Sorry if it is.

2.0 out of 5 stars Amateurish, unfortunately...
The ability of authors (who would otherwise remain unheard of) to nowadays self-publish their work is as well documented as it is popular. Read more
