Bought these but not from Amazon. I've owned them for about 2 years now and, while they're starting to show some signs of wear, they're still going strong.
Over the years I've owned New Balance, Meindl and about 7 pairs of Merrell boots over more than 10 years. The previous reviewer would have you believe that Merrell boots are rubbish, fall apart in normal wear and you shouldn't buy them. There's a general trend of reviews to say that a manufacturer used to be good but is not crap since they moved manufacture to China / cut costs and that they're products are now universally rubbish.
Quite frankly, this does not tally with my experience. 2 of my Merrell boots are still in rotation over 4 years AFTER I bought them. Anybody can have a bad experience with shoes. I do not work for this company but I think that given people's jobs rely on their reputation they deserve a FAIR hearing.
On the plus side these boots are tough, comfortable, warm and, in my experience, stand up to hiking wear.
On the negative side they're undoubtedly expensive. I do think that Merrell quality is mostly very good but all their boots have wear points and the degree of wear really depends on the wearer and the quality of the fit. For me the wear points are the inner parts of the insoles and the back of the ankle supports. After 2 years some of the material on the inside of the shoe are frayed at these points. For me, that's acceptable wear considering these get used for heavy duty trail walking about 7 hours of every week and sometimes for leisure wear. They're still perfectly waterproof, well as much as any Goretex boots are. I reckon they're on my feet for about 25% of my waking hours / year. I've found that Meindl last a bit better but are not as comfortable. I'd happily recommend either brand.
