A great pair of sandals. Wore these regularly last summer in all sorts of terrain (city, mountains, lakes) with no problems. A couple of notes of caution:

First, depending on the position of your little toe in relation to the rest of your foot, there's a chance it could poke out of the hole on the outside of the sandal! My little toes are quite small and stick up/out a bit (maybe I'm a freak?!) and they just stay inside the sandals, but only by the tip of my toe!

And second, and relevant to more people I imagine, the straps slacken off a bit over time and there isn't really any way to tighten the sandal up more. Despite all the straps and laces you can see over the top/front of the sandal, they don't really do much because the lace is elastic (and pretty stretchy elastic at that). The side strap just pulls on the elastic, so you can tighten it fully and it doesn't really apply any more grip around the foot. So, the upshot is that the fit depends mostly on the elastic nature of the soft sock part that goes over the top of the foot near the ankle, and this can't be adjusted. That said, mine have had good wear and fit fine, though a little looser than when new, and if t becomes a problem I will look at replacing the elastic cords with non-elastic laces.

Bought these for our holiday last summer.
Have several pairs of Merrell shoes going back many years, as they never seem to wear out.
I wore these for three weeks solid. Very comfortable, nice design.
BUT, both the soles split from side to side. As it was both soles assumed it was a manufacturing fault so sent them back.
It was late summer so I got a refund. Cos if the next pair were faulty in the same way I wouldn't find out until this summer and it would be too late for a refund.
Other reviews would suggest that I wasn't the only one to experience quality issues.
Disappointing for a usually excellent brand.

I wore these sandals all last summer and on an 8-week tour of India this winter. I chose them because they provided more toe protection for activities than 'open sandals' and the back straps can be removed to turn them into slip-ons.

They are supremely comfortable, stay firm to the feet when worn as slip-ons and provide the sufficient support and protection to go over rough terrain. They walked miles through India: a 3000km tuk-tuk drive, up the caves at Elora, walks round the great Indian cities and on the beaches of Kerala (Kovalam and Kudle).

I cycled for many miles last summer in the UK. There's still loads of wear left in them too.

These are great sandals for active people. A fantastic compromise between wearing walking shoes or open sandals.

I wear these for probably 6 months of the year, and they are great, my feet stay cool in the summer, and they are even good for long walks. But one real frustration is the strap around the back of the foot, the Velcro of which is not designed properly, so only about 1cm actually overlaps, so it's often coming loose, and can't be really tightened up. Also the strap over the top really doesn't do anything to alleviate this problem (in fact it does nothing). So it's like the were designed well to a point and then the designer just fell asleep on the job ! Would buy again if this problem was sorted.

I bought these to wear as my everyday non-smart footwear. As I mostly live and work in Laos in south-east Asia my sandals see more service than any shoes I wear when back in the UK, For this part of the world, where the ability to slip shoes on and off when entering and leaving buildings, as local culture demands is important, I like the design of these. I also like the idea that they're closed-toe sandals because I do a lot of km on my motorbike - step-through, so nothing too off-road, and these offer a tad more protection to your tootsies than do flip-flops.
One point to bear on mind, if like me you disdain wearing socks with your sandals, especially white ones, is make sure that your toe-nails are nicely trimmed. I certainly wouldn't have described my own as talons, and somehow a hole appeared in the mesh, having obviously been worn through from down-under. If this had happened after say six months, while I wouldn't have been stoked, as Americans, who obviously have never been to Stoke, say, I wouldn't have minded half so much but it happened to mine after less than a week's wear. Thankfully the kind folks at Amazon, eventually appreciated my disappointment and while they weren't able to send me out a replacement pair to me - their current policy is only to ship replacement items to the same address as they were originally delivered to - I did get a refund. This policy is definitely something to bear in mind, if like me you're heading off to a part of the world, where buying quality footwear, particularly larger sizes is difficult and can be very expensive if you want to avoid buying fakes.Read more ›

These sandals are brilliant, I already had one pair and was so impressed I bought another pair in a different colour. They are extremely comfortable to wear and you can walk in water with them. The heel strap is adjustable and removeable, so you can wear them as a mule type sandal if you should so desire. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these to anybody. More colours please Merrell.
