5.0 out of 5 stars Must read! 7 Nov 2010
I bought this book judging only by the cover at a risk of disappointment and was completely blown away.
It's the best little mermaid story ever, showing the trials of true love and the strength of hope against despair.
There's action, danger and tragedy linked with explicit sex scenes and dry humour that altogether make for a thrilling and touching read.
It's refreshing to find an adult version of my favourite childhood story and want more!

The Story
A fallen angel is rescued by a young mermaid bound to a curse, who falls in love with him and sets about helping him. She's so full of hope and love he finds it difficult to resist and goes along with her to keep her happy even as he's burdened with grief and guilt.
The dark ones are looking to claim him as their own to serve their will so she must keep him safe until he's healed enough to rejoin the battle and his legion.
The closer they get, the harder the sacrifice when the enemy attacks and threatens everything they've become together.

I only have one problem with this book and that is i can't put it down!

5.0 out of 5 stars a mermaids kiss 14 Jun 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Oh my! She keeps doing this. Joey Hill. Angels and mermaids what a mix. Jonah (Angel, Prime leader and Commander. Say's it all really) and Anna (sweet and innocent mermaid). Well they get all hot and sweaty (oh yes! the passion). The fight is on, can Anna save Jonah? You'll have to read it and see. Believe me this is an afterlife book.

5.0 out of 5 stars An enthralling and emotionally powerful read 12 Nov 2009
After closing the book all I can do is sit here and ride the last emotional waves of my first experience with a novel from Joey W Hill? At the beginning of The Mermaid's Kiss I had to get a feel for the author's voice, I didn't instantly "get" what she was going for with Jonah and Anna. Jonah was "My Lord" and Anna was "Little One" and it confused me until I picked up on a subtle and oh so natural Dominant/submissive synergy going on between the two main protagonists. It is never defined, nor explicitly described by Hill but for me suddenly things fell in to place and I could surrender myself to the story as it is told.

Because with each chapter read I fell more and more for the characters and world this author created. A Mermaid's Kiss is not a story you would want to read for the extensive thrilling action, nor for the rich abundance in world building, and I will honestly say that this kind of storytelling is an acquired taste. Still, the love story is of such an exquisite quality it just knocked me off my feet with its ending. What I received was two people thrown together where the circumstances lead them to go on a quest of the heart and soul. I cannot see it any different way. Jonah is the tormented, wary Prime Legion Commander of the Lady and when wounded in a battle with the Dark Ones he falls into the ocean to escape them. Anna finds him sinking to the depths of the ocean and rescues him and brings him to a cave so he can heal from the wing torn from his shoulder.

Familiar fairytale story up till now, right? Still, any resemblance of a Disney story ends right there because A Mermaid's Kiss is far more dark since Anna is destined to die at the tender age of twenty-one.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! 19 Feb 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I bought the book a week ago and I am now on the third in the trilogy. The author has a knack of transporting the reader to places you can only dream of going and feel empathy for the characters of both worlds she has created. It is very sensual and at the end of the second book I did have a few tears. If you love romance, adventure and exploring new worlds these are the books for you. More please Ms Hill about these wonderful places and characters.
