Product Description

Centuries after Merlin (Rik Mayall) banished the evil Mordred (Craig Sheffer) to the netherworld, scientist Joan Maxwell (Tia Carrere) starts experimenting with the Earth's magnetic flows and frees the dreaded fellow to unleash his havoc upon the world once more. Luckily, Merlin foresaw a catastrophe of this kind and placed King Arthur (Patrick Bergin) and the knight Lancelot (Adrian Paul) in a long, deep sleep ready to deal with it. So as Mordred walks the Earth again, Arthur and Lancelot prepare to confront him - and enlist the help of 14-year-old Richie Gould to make sure everything goes according to plan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical entertainment 22 Dec 2004
This film works its own kind of magic. It is one that both adults and children can enjoy and I suspect that those elements that got it a PG rating, are precisely the ones that children will enjoy the most.
Rik Mayall steals every scene that he is in, his slightly anarchic Merlin, who fusses about which gown to wear, transforms into the mighty magician with consummate ease.
This film was shot in Africa, but the viewer would never know this, every scene seems to have been shot somewhere in rural England, and the sets, especially that of Stonehenge are superb.
The film is well shot, well acted and a joy to watch. It has no bad language, no unnecessary, gratuitous violence, it even manages to provide a happy ending that is belevable. It is not twee nor does it insult the viewer's intelligence and the ultimate test, it is worth watching again and again.

4.0 out of 5 stars A stellar cast 1 Mar 2004
By Richard
The cast of this film is incredible, drawing out as much comedy as possible, however its is a kids film and an effective one. Ricky Mayalll is great as Merlin the wizard able to be comical and serious when the ocassion calls for it.
The child actors perform admarably and Craig Shaffer shows some great characterisation as the serpent like dark sorcerer Mordred. This is a nice film, with a little less exposition thats needed really and not as much desired character development, but it was executed well.

1.0 out of 5 stars Rik had a couple of bad years..... 29 July 2014
.....What with his accident, Guest House Paradiso, and this, it was a low point for the funny,an, and after this, the only way was up.

The dark forces of Mordred are pitted against the mythical sorcery of Merlin. Mordred and his mother Morgana have been imprisoned in another world for the past 1500 years while Merlin's magical powers kept them at bay.

However, in the present, a scientist accidentally finds the gateway to the other world and is about to release Mordred into 20th Century life.

Arthur is reawakened from his slumber and together with Merlin, tries to find a way to stop Mordred from re-entering this world.....

To say the film is bad would be an understatement. I have seen some turkeys in my time, but this is below the children's film foundation standards, and seeing the likes of Bergin, Mayall, and even Sheffer, utter an inane script and perform against horrible CGI skeletons.

But that's not the bad part, the child actors are skull scraping lay bad, and Tia Carrere, once brilliant in Wayne's World and True Lies, is the pits, the absolute pits.

But for such a dog of a movie, it must have mystical powers, because I couldn't take my eyes off screen for a second.

On the plus side, it's the best Stonehenge based movie featuring Merlin in the present ever made.

I will give it that.
