The Castle of Fyrien - 8/10
Gwen, after being kidnapped by Cenred's men, finds herself with an impossible dilemma as he forces her to choose between Arthur and her estranged brother, Elyan. With one of them certain to die at Cenred's hand, who will Gwen choose? The love of her life, or her only sibling? Loyalties are tested to the limit and friendships are thrown to the fore as Arthur, Merlin and Gwen work together to try and find a way out of the situation. But with Morgana and Morgause doing all that they can to scupper the threesome's plan, can good conquer evil, or will Gwen lose another of those she loves?

The Eye of the Phoenix - 8/10
Arthur is forced to embark on a solitary quest to retrieve the Golden Trident from the Fisher King and prove himself worthy of the Camelot throne. With the Prince beyond the protection of the citadel, the evil Morgana sees an opportunity to use her dark magic and gives him a precious bracelet containing a Phoenix Eye. It looks like an ordinary jewel and as Arthur is unaware of Morgana's true loyalties he wears it at all times for 'protection'. The Phoenix Eye however proves to be a curse as it saps him of his life force and he is left defenceless in the Fisher King's perilous realm. With the help of Gwaine, can Merlin reach him in time and fulfil his own quest to protect the future king of Camelot?

Love in the Time of Dragons - 7/10
When Alice an old flame of Gaius's arrives in Camelot, Merlin is pleased to see a different side to his curmudgeonly mentor. But after discovering she is under the influence of a Manticore, a creature from the Old Religion, Merlin has no choice but to tell his old friend of Alice's evil intentions. Blinded by love, the old physician refuses to believe Merlin's story, and the two friends fall out. With the King in danger and all signs pointing to Alice and her evil pet, Merlin must somehow make Gaius come to his senses before it is too late - especially as it is only Gaius that could of had the oppurtunity to poison the King, meaning he would face death if he doesn't hand Alice over.

Queen of Hearts - 8/10
Morgana is tormented by dreams of Guinevere becoming Queen of Camelot and realises that some dreams are prophecies. Encouraged by Morgause, she decides to reveal Arthur and Gwen's courtship to Uther, who will do whatever it takes to stop his son from marrying a serving girl. When his father banishes Gwen from the kingdom, Arthur makes the ultimate sacrifice and resolves to leave Camelot with her but informs Morgana that he will return in the future to take the throne and have Gwen as his queen. Determined to stop them, Morgana frames Gwen for the heinous crime of enchanting the prince. With destiny at stake, Merlin must risk everything to save her from a gruesome death.

The Sorcerer's Shadow - 7/10
The only rule in Camelot's legendary tournament is that there are no rules - meaning someone could use anything to defeat their opponent. The mythic city fills with terrifying warriors and are joined by Gilli, who despite his small stature has victory in his sights and a secret weapon to help him - magic. As Gilli begins to realise the full potential of his powers, Merlin finds himself torn. Not only is his new friend putting his own life in danger, but his actions threaten to rip apart the very fabric of Camelot itself. If Gilli kills Uther using magic then Albion will never be born as Arthur will view it as evil forever. Can Merlin make Gilli see sense before it's too late?

The Coming of Arthur: Part 1 - 10/10
When some Knights of Camelot are killed by Cenred, the Druids use the Cup of Life to bring Sir Leon back from the brink of death. When he informs Uther of his recovery the King sends Merlin and Arthur on a dangerous mission to capture the Cup of Life, a powerful magical artifact that in evils hands carries the gift of immortality. Before they can retrieve the Cup, they are captured by the unscrupulous slave trader, Jarl. Gwaine comes to the rescue and they escape, but with Jarl's help the cup falls into Morgause's hands. With an immortal army at their disposal, will Morgause and Morgana topple Uther once and for all?

The Coming of Arthur: Part 2 - 10/10
Morgana has been crowned Queen and begins a reign of terrible evil over the innocent citizens of Camelot. With Morgause's immortal army at her command, it seems there is no hope for Uther, who must watch his Kingdom crumble under the unimaginable cruelty of his own daughter who realises that she truly despises him. Meanwhile, on the outskirts of Camelot, Arthur regains his strength and, with Gwen, Merlin, Gaius, Leon, Gwaine, Lancelot, Elyan and Percival at his side, plans a brave counter-attack. But Merlin knows that even Arthur cannot vanquish an immortal foe. The only hope left is for him to recover the great sword Excalibur from the Lake of Avalon in time to save Arthur from certain doom?

This has been a wonderful series and is set to be a fantastic dvd set - with plenty of extras including Exclusive Deleted Scenes, Cast & Crew Audio Commentaries, Downloadable Wallpapers and more!

With a fourth series already confirmed Merlin has proven to be a fantastic addition to Saturday night television and fills the space left by Doctor Who wonderfully. This is a must have DVD Set for any Merlin fan!
