I bought this book for my 8 year old daughter who loves the BBC series, she devoured this book and begged for another! Amazing for a girl who thinks reading is "boring, boring, boring". She now has read it twice in one week. I'm off to the checkout!

My 10-year-old read some other books in this series and really enjoyed them, so I tried to find more. However, this one has much larger print, illustrations, and is a much easier level than the others, so is more appropriate for 5-7 years. It would have been helpful to have had an age level rather than the ambiguous "younger readers," as the snippet of text you can see in the "Look Inside" preview is misleading: the text you see in the preview actually takes up a full five pages in the printed edition.
The story is good, though, and written well enough to keep the attention of young children, especially if they have seen the TV series. The vocabulary is challenging for this age group, but not too difficult, and the sentence structure well rendered for the formation of avid readers.

I agree with Bookworm: bought this book for my 8 year old son for whom his 10 minute reading prep is usually a chore. He devoured this book, eagerly picking it up each day and happily discussing it with his teacher the next. I also liked the fact that the language was not too simple, there were several words he had to really work at pronouncing and others he had to ask the meaning. Perfect mixture for a young reader!
