I have been using this razor for the past 3 years and am very happy with both its build and performance. The first thing you notice when you pick it up is that it is heavier than most safety razors on the market, but feels very solid and well-made. It takes about 15 twists to open the head of the razor to insert the blade (which is perhaps a few too many) but is not really an issue for me. The exposure of the blade is controlled by twisting the neck. Instead of grade numbers (as there are on the Merkur Futur), the word V-I-S-I-O-N is engraved on the neck so you have to remember the letter for the grade required. I tend to use the middle setting which works perfectly well for me.
Because the razor itself is heavier than most, you do not need to (and indeed shouldn't) apply pressure to the skin when shaving. Instead, let the weight of the razor do the work. I tend to use it with some Truefitt No.10 pre-shave oil and Trumpers coconut shaving cream. I get an excellent close shave with this razor using only one pass, but sometimes use two for extra closeness.
The Vision can be disassembled into several parts quite easily to facilitate cleaning, which I think should be done every month to remove soap build-up that can clog the mechanism if left unchecked. It is very easy to clean and reassemble.
All in all, this is a very solid, well-made, and easy to use razor which should last a very long time if cared for properly. I have been using it regularly for the past 3 years without any problems at all. It feels heavy to use at first but you quickly get used to it and I find that it is streets ahead of other safety razors on the market. In conclusion, although seemingly quite expensive, I feel that it is a worthy investment.
