This record is summed up by the initial reaction from a doubtless large man in the crowd - the studio guy introduces the band with "Ladies and Gentlemen - once again let's swing with Cannonball Adderley and the Quintet!" and before the band can get a note out he just shouts out a deep "Yeahh!!" You'll have the same reaction. Difficult to believe that at the time of writing this only scored 3 and half stars - come on, the Quintet never swung this hard on any other record - it perfectly captures them at their jazz soul crossover before it all started to go a bit flabby with the seventies style zodiac stuff. If you've had enough earnest Coltrane-spiritual-quest type stuff for a while, flip this on, open the windows and shout "Yeeeeaaahhh!!" to your delighted neighbours. Music that makes you feel glad to be alive.
