Product Description

High sensitivity alarm for detecting the leakage of household gas, liquid gas and natural gas. The sensor reacts with the diffused gases in the air directly and generates a linear voltage signal. When the detected gas density reaches a set value, the alarm emits a loud alarm signal to alert users to take precautionary measures in time.

Mercury Gas Detector 12 Feb 2010
By John
I ordered this detector for my elderly mother who lives alone and uses a gas cooker. She started to turn on a gas tap whilst leaving the gas unlit, and we discussed with her how best to deal with this dangerous situation. She finally agreed that i could research some gas detectors for her. I was somewhat concerned that she may come to rely on the detector to let her know if she had turned on the gas tap without lighting it, rather than checking the cooker herself. However, this has proved to be an amazing gadget which plugs into the mains and is ever so sensitive. She telephoned me a month or so after installation rather panicked saying that the alarm was making a very loud noise and she couldn't understand why. I asked that she open her door and also check her gas taps. Sure enough she had left a gas tap slightly on without it being lit. The alarm stopped sounding and she was pleased we had managed to prevent her causing severe damage to herself and her neighbours. The gadget comes with installation details, and my mother does feel safer - as do my family and i.

I bought this after my Mother aged 78 almost blew herself and my brother up after leaving the gas hob on as she has a very poor sense of smell and by the time my brother had smelt the gas upstairs it would have been very dangerous. Thankfully we have not tested in real life situation, however I took it from the box and plugged into a socket around 2 feet from my own gas cooker and turned on the gas. Within 2 minutes and 20 seconds a very loud alarm was sounded and I have to say I was standing in front of the cooker and I had barely smelt the gas at that stage. When I decided to look for one I had an expectation of paying £40 upwards for a worth while alarm. It is discreet and has a screw bracket so it could be fitted out of sight if needs be. My Mother has hers tucked behind her kettle on the bench and you cannot see it. Highly recommended and the peace of mind comes at any cost to me.

Domestic Gas Detector 20 Feb 2010
It took some time to get the (mains) wiring neat, when the detector needed to be above the cooker.

We tested it by leaving a gas ring on, unlit - it worked!

We now hope we never hear it agin, apart from a monthly test.

We live in a block of flats, and I feel safer now it is fitted, however I wish all the other reidents would fit one!

value for money
it does the job, however, not that sensitive as one may expect. If your owen is old like ours, it is a good safety product to have.

Is it faulty
I got one of these today and it lets out a single beep every minute or so. I tried it in a room without any gas appliances at all. Should it be doing this? Read more

Does what it says on the box
Works fine - tested with Gas and LPG. It must warm up first (the red light must go off) before it is fully operational so it actually works "3 minutes out of the box" not "right... Read more
