Product Description

Review

"'MERCKX 525 is a long journey through my career of 525 race victories. In addition to its authoritative text, this beautiful work contains a unique collection of exclusive photographs, including some that even I had not seen before. It is the only work authorised by me on the occasion of my 65th birthday, and the first truly complete record of my accomplishments.' (Eddy Merckx)"

Excellent book covering the life of the worlds greatest [IMHO] racing cyclist. An absolute must for any fan of Eddy Merckx, the photos not only show Merckx in 'winning mode' but also of his family upbringing.

Eddy comes alive 12 Oct. 2012
By Larry TheobaldCycleItalia - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
There have been plenty of books written about cycling's "Babe Ruth" including some other just-released ones we've yet to read. Why should we at CycleItalia care about Eddy, after all he's not even Italian? Maybe because he won almost all the Italian races there were to win, including Milano-San Remo SEVEN times, the Giro d'Italia FIVE times and the GIro di Lombardia twice? He did this on bicycles made by Masi, DeRosa or Colnago fitted with Campagnolo components while on teams named FAEMA or MOLTENI and speaks fluent Italian. He was inducted into the Giro d'Italia hall of fame just this year and had a profound effect on Italian cycling history.
So an Italian cycling fan should be a Merckx fan and and should add this book to their collection. Why? While other books, especially Eddy Merckx by Rik Vanwalleghem (another Velo Press title) do an excellent job of describing the Cannibal, as Merckx was known, it's the photos in MERCKX 525 that make it special. They show the raw, animal and youthful spirit of a young Eddy that just jumps off the printed page in a way it can not on a computer screen.
The progression of Merckx from the raw, exuberant youth to grizzled warrior is revealed as you turn the pages. As they say, this is the only "authorized" biography and offers wonderful photographs, some that even Eddy claims HE had not seen before. Well worth the price for your collection. (Disclaimer: the publisher sent this to us free-of-charge to review)

A Worthy Record 3 April 2013
By Eddy M - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
Every fan of cycling knows the name Eddy Merckx. His record of race victories stands above all others. For the great Eddy Merckx to be seen in the detail put together in this book is indeed rare. Many images are seen here for the first time, and show the reader a more intimate view of the man and his life while racing. The stories, many in his own words, are alone worth owning the book. To have all the excellent photographs together with them is a great accomplishment, and a welcome treat.

Great photos, great light bio BUT 8 Mar. 2013
By P. Budd - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
This is primarily a photo history of Merckx' career with short bios of key races. It is not a critical biography and lightly passes over controversy, such as the '69 Giro doping scandal. The photos are wonderful but the production/paper quality does not do them justice. Better quailty in these areas would have been worth the added expense. Despite that, a book worth having if you are a Merckx fan.

A classic book for a classic rider 28 Jan. 2013
By R. Sawyer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
When friends visit and complain about the state of cycling in this post-Lance era, hand them this wonderful book. It's a joy to read, to look at, and even just to hold in your hands. Pure class in every way, just the way Eddy Merckx was in his prime, and still is, in his retirement.
