This is a collection of stories about the men I sailed with during my forty-one years at sea, forty-one years that began in 1950. Many started from a humble back ground, others from wealthy parentage and there were some who began life in the Homes for Misplaced Children. They became united members of the family of officers and men on board ship and each had stories to tell. This always leads to an amazing assortment of tales about other ships, other companies, other corners of the world and other fellow officers they had sailed with. All Merchant Navy Officers have great stories to tell. These are some of mine. Bob Jackman

This collection of stories is a gem - an authentic record of Bob Jackman's 41 years in the Merchant Navy as 2nd Engineer. A seafarer with a talent for writing, he turns the spotlight on the many characters he has met in the four corners of the world, from Captains down to assistant cooks. No Walt Disney yarns these, but anecdotes that could only have been written by a man with a genuine love of his job, his ships, (most) of his fellow men and life generally both on shore and at sea. Humour is always just below the surface making this book a delight to read.
