This book answers these questions and is designed to offer nursing and healthcare students a foundation in effective mentoring. Chapters examine the roles and responsibilities of the mentor, and how they enhance the process of mentorship. By examining the relevant competencies and knowledge base, the book provides an essential framework for developing the practice skills needed for successful mentoring.

Key features include:

- Embedded in real-life practice and case study examples

- Offers tips for successful mentoring and reflects upon likely challenges

- Features a range of interactive study activities linked to the student and mentor’s experiences

- Presents the most up-to-date professional guidance

This book is written around the 8 domains form the NMC 'Supporting Learning' framework and is therefore especially useful for those on a mentor preparation course or who have a role in supporting learners as a registrant, maybe as an associate mentor. Each chapter takes you through the issues and challenges of mentoring and give case studies and exercises to consider. This enables the reader to apply this knowledge to your own practice and could be used as a framework for reflection.
For practice teachers and clinical educators the content may not cover your needs as it is focused around the Pre-Registration nursing course, but some content may be transferable to other courses and to supporting learner colleagues in practice. HPC and ACE standards and outcomes are included.
Overall a good book for novice mentors using the authors experience to offer case studies and reflective exercises to challenge the reader throughout.

This book is fantastic and is a requirement if studying the mentorship module as the book is based around the 8 Domains set our by the NMC to complete the mentor course. Kinnell is my lecturer at The University of Nottingham, he has alot of interest within mentorship and have found him a great support. He has written this book in the same manner as he teachers and i'm sure will support you too through your mentorship module.
