Product Description

Product Description
Spying, lying and dying. Fans of 'Spooks' will be swept away by Steve Jackson's explosive debut novel. They say lightning never strikes twice. They are wrong. London has been bombed for the second time in 2 years, but this time the enemy is a lot closer to home. Paul Aston, a young MI6 Agent, is sent to investigate. But nothing could have prepared him for the scenes of horror and devastation that he sees. Images that will stay with him for the rest of his life. The government blames MI6, MI6 blames the government, but the truth behind what the media are calling 18/8 is more chilling than anyone could have imagined. Slowly, Aston tears away the layers of corruption, betrayal and murder to reveal the real culprit. Someone who knows every trick in the book, because he's played every trick in the book. Someone who has a deep seething hatred of MI6 and will stop at nothing until his vengeance is satisfied. He is The Mentor.

About the Author
On leaving school Steve Jackson fell into journalism, where filling in expense forms gave him a solid grounding in fiction writing. From there he meandered through numerous occupations - musician, recording engineer, university drop-out, guitar tutor, riding instructor - before turning his hand to thriller writing. Born in Scotland, he spent most of his childhood with his nose in a book in deepest, darkest Gloucestershire. He currently lives in St Albans.

5.0 out of 5 stars TOP NOTCH ACTION FROM AN EXCELLENT NEW WRITER, 14 Feb 2007
I've read countless thrillers in the action and suspense genre, but this one is something very special. It's across between Spooks and somebody like Chris Ryan (but without any military stuff). Paul Aston is a great series character and his ass kicking sidekick George (Georgina) is equally well drawn. This book also has a very serious edge to it, because it concerns another bombing in London, but what I loved about it, is that's it's not what you think and the author gives the reader some amazing cliffhangers. Loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wish I was on a long haul!, 21 Feb 2007

I sat down on Boxing day at 9am and was still there at 8pm! The family went hungry and I didn't care, a real page turner!

I finished the last hours worth the next morning and my only regret was that I didn't save this book for a long haul flight as it was so gripping and compulsive reading. So all you travellers out there, get this book and if you haven't finished by landing hide in the toilet!

Fantastic I can't wait for the sequel

3.0 out of 5 stars Trust no one, including reviewers, 11 Dec 2007
By Mr. David A. Collings (Plymouth UK) - See all my reviews

The reviews above look completely suspect to me, especially when you look to see what else they have reviewed.

So in the interests of fairness, here is what the guardian said

"The clichés lie thick on the ground and the writing is often uncomfortably awkward, but it's a jolly good thriller none the less. The pace is maintained, the tension is good and it is almost believable at times."
