Product Description

Product Description

Sanatorium, mental ward, psychiatric hospital - they’re all the same. Places where the infirm, the crazy, and the certifiable go for treatment... Or what passes for ‘treatment’.

This is a collection of stories of bedlam taking place within the padded walls of an institution. Stories of experiments gone wrong, patients revolting against the staff, or even the deranged doings of those charged with giving care. They are sick, depraved, and atrocious - the type of stories that rarely reach the light of day.

Are you brave enough to crawl inside the minds of the thirteen authors who wrote these tales... Or are you afraid you’ll be locked up for peeking?

Featuring the talents of:
Delphine Boswell, Alex Chase, Sean Conway, Megan Dorei, A.A. Garrison, Tom Howard, Russell Linton, Suzie Lockhart and Bruce Lockhart 2nd, Jennifer Loring, Sergio Palumbo, Joseph A. Pinto, and D.M. Smith

4.0 out of 5 stars A great collection of eerily insane stories 11 Nov 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
You'll question everything that's going on when you read these tales. Who is insane and who isn't? What is insanity, anyway? There's eeriness and unease, but also humour in these stories - something for everyone who likes horror or just a creepy tale. My personal favourites: Whispers by Alex Chase, Hierarchy by Joseph A. Pinto, and Visiting Hours by Megan Dorei. Easy to dip in and out of, I read this on a plane returning from a holiday - it certainly distracted me from the flight!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Your Typical Trip to the Hospital 9 Aug 2013
By Andree G. Robinson Neal - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Like a few of the authors in this collection, I too have worked in a locked mental facility. Perhaps that is part of what drew me to read "Mental Ward: Stories from the Asylum." I can say that this was no ordinary trip; each author took a unique view of what it is like to be inside those locked walls. Some looked through the eyes of patients--living and deceased--while others looked through the eyes of staff members, administrators, or relatives of patients. Each story rang true and offered just the right amount of chill factor. The volume should not be considered frightening but be prepared: it is just off-center enough to cause disturbance.
5.0 out of 5 stars What a great way to spend a couple of long nights 3 July 2014

To be upfront, one of my own stories is featured in this collection. That being said, what an impressive collection the rest of these stories are. What a great way to spend a couple of long nights.
3.0 out of 5 stars Short stories 14 Sep 2014

It was a good grouping of asylum stories from the nutters to the orderlies. All were pretty well written and made for easy reading some were scary and some were straight out of the twilight zone.
4.0 out of 5 stars Works of fiction, 27 Aug 2014

Not a documentary style book. It is fiction, but good fiction from the inside of asylums. I liked every store in there.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wasn't an autobiography like I thought it was 10 Aug 2014

Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Wasn't an autobiography like I thought it was. Very sad about that. A collection of short stories that I did not find intriguing at all.
