Product Description

Product Description

The difference between two people in sports, business and life is not just talent or ability. It usually comes down to how they think. The sourse of peak performance is your mindset and how you blend your trained skills with a trained brain. Mental Ketchup reveals how you can think differently and develop that mindset to deal with whatever sports, business and life throws at you. Written from material that has been tested at the highest levels of sport such as the Ryder Cup, The Ashes, Rugby World and the Premiership to high-powered business situations, this book will transform your thinking, improve how you communicate with yourself, develop the skills to influence how you feel for any situation, start taking action and stand out. You will discover the source of peak performance inside of you and add it to all that you do. Written by Jamie Edwards, a performance coach who has worked with elite athletes and top-flight businessmen, this is an indispensable guide to learning how to win in those challenges where just skill or just talent are not quite enough.

From the Publisher

Mental Ketchup is a self-help book with a difference. Positive in tone, defined by a style which empowers the reader to take charge of their life, it is also the kind of book the message of which is applicable everywhere from the sports field to the boardroom to life.

This is a fantastic book, both as an enjoyable read and as a mental 'toolbox'. Mental Ketchup has loads of anecdotes and examples which I will be using when I run my trainings. It's about time there was an accessible, jargon free book on peak performance. Well done Jamie Edwards!

This is a fantastic resource for anyone interested in reaching their own peak performance. An excellent resource that lends itself to being easily referenced. Keep this book close, you will go back again and again....

Disappointing 4 April 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this book on the back of the perfect reviews it had received here on Amazon. However I found the book to offer little substance and practical concepts. It uses language which I would describe as "management speak" that sounds good but doesn't really have an applicable value. Maybe I am being a little harsh and there are a few good points in there. I just found that after I read a chapter I wasn't really sure what or how to use anything that had been in there and so moved onto the next chapter. It is a very quick read at just 174 pages with reasonably large type.

As someone who has read many psychology/mindset books to help with sports performance there was nothing new. In the whole book I only found two points/tools that added a little to what I already know so maybe it would be better for people who have not read much in this genre before. (By the way the best book on sport psychology for me is still Ahead of the Game by Jeremy Lazarus which takes a more scientific approach).

Having looked again at the reviews for this book most are by reviewers with only this being there only review and a few say they received the book before it was published. Maybe they are people who know the author and are a little biased in opinion. With regard to the author he talks little of his own success and we only know that he played basketball, he doesn't mention to what level, and so whether he has used these concepts himself to be successful is unknown. He does say that he has worked with elite athletes and business people including a top female golfer and the England Cricket Team among others.

In summary I would say this book offers little that can be used in a practical sense and there are many books out there which offer much better advice and content.
