Product Description

Product Description
There's something you need to know about IQ and IQ tests. The intelligence you're born with is all you're ever going to get. You can't buy it, borrow it, or grow it in your garden. But you're probably not making the most of what you've got. The good news is, we can show you how to do that. The other thing you need to know is that IQ tests, however cunningly constructed they may be, are just another sort of exam. You can practice and you can increase your score. Ok, so you won't actually be more intelligent, but everyone will think you are. This book is a complete practical course in how to boost your IQ score. It starts by explaining exactly what IQ is and how it is measured. Then comes a guided tour through some of the most common types of IQ questions and how they work. The book will train you to increase not only your accuracy but also, vitally, your speed (which is the key factor in attaining a high score). It shows you how even the most fearsome problems succumb to a little logic. It also gives you valuable tips on test strategy (there are plenty of people who get poor scores just because they panic and don't know the basic rules for taking an IQ test). If you need to boost your IQ score, this book will prove invaluable. It is written by people who have unique experience of the highly intelligent. It could help you to join them.

About the Author

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what the title says, 28 Nov 2002
By Sho ryu ken (Berkshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I was disappointed with this book. It has a brief introduction explaning the meaning of intelligence, followed by a few basic exam guidelines. The rest of the book consists of strings of puzzles separated into ten one-hours tests. This would be fine if I was looking for another puzzle book but I had expected, from the title, it to offer some advice on how to tackle the specific problems - perhaps a step by step explanation for each. Instead, it simply lists the answers, leaving you to reach the solution using your own method, which could still be slow and flawed. As well as this, there are numerous misprints. Some of the puzzles are unsolvable... and some of the puzzles are printed twice; some of the puzzles don't even match up to their answers!

In conclusion, if you're looking for a few puzzles to get an idea of what to expect in a MENSA exam, then this book could be useful. If you're looking for an explanation of the optimal logical steps to take in completing the puzzles (as I was), then avoid it.
