This book does a good job explaining the fundamentals of getting lean, healthy, and vital.

The Good:

It will show you how to change what you eat, not how much you eat, and lose weight and feel better.

It will show you what types of food to include in your diet and how they help you, and what foods to avoid and why they harm you.

It will show you how to gauge your current fitness level so you can follow the program and then re-test to see how you're doing.

It will show you some a simple workout program that will help you get on the road to being lean, muscular, and strong.

It will give you some good supplement advice on what inexpensive dietary supplements you can take to significantly improve your performance and health.

The Whatever:

A few chapters were kind of "meh," such as the Magyver's Fridge one, the sex chapter, and the recipes. But there was plenty of helpful information throughout to offset this.

Summary:

If you want to get a good education on the fundamentals of getting shredded, then I recommend this book. It fell a bit short in terms of workout programs and calculating an actual diet (it says you don't have to, but this will only work to a point). If you want to know how to work out and eat for maximum muscle gains and fat loss, then I recommend Bigger Leaner Stronger: The Simple Science of Building the Ultimate Male Body (The Lean Muscle Series)--ESPECIALLY if you're new to training or short on time.

New Material Includes Injury Prevention 2 Feb 2012
By S. Guy - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I've been reading this book for about two days and I'm half way through. While much of it rehashes a lot of knowledge that is becoming common, I found some information that really got me excited. It includes a section of fitness testing where you try some basic exercise positions, such as a squat, and review your form in a mirror or have a friend help observe and compare to photos. If you can't maintain or use proper form the book tells you what to look for and what exercises to do to allow your body to maintain proper form. This injury prevention technique is critical to helping you avoid injury in this or many other exercise programs -- especially if you are going it alone. Kudos to The Men's Health Diet for including this section in the book. I would have given the book 5 stars if they made it even more concise and removed some of the sales pitch from it. A lot of that wasn't necessary for me and makes the book a longer read.
