I don't love it because it feels really insecure, it feels like it is going to break, because when you wobble it with the bikes on it really flexes and seems like the thing will just break. They do offer two straps to secure the central metal bar to the car. The only thing is that the strap is not long enough to reach my volvo XC90, so I have to tie the strap to one of the bikes instead, this feels bodgy, why could they have not just made them longer!
It took me 2 hours to put together, you need spanners, a socket wrench is helpful, screw drivers and lots of patience. Getting the plastic wheel stops on the horizontal bars is not easy until you work out a way to do it, you need pliers for that.
You need a socket wrench to screw the thing onto the toe hook, I don't really like the design of it, it does not seem that secure and does not hold the bike rack horizontally to the ground, and I think it gets worse and ends up sagging down a little more.
I can't help but think I should have opted for an expensive bike rack, but I brought this in a rush.
So it's ok if you put the straps and if the straps fit your car. Also once the straps on on the car, they can't come off easily, so right now the strap is just dangling off the back of the car, what is needed is a couple of different types of hooks to hook to the top of your boot.
Also the picture in the item listing does not show the straps that you attach to the car, in the manual it shows the straps, and I would not be comfortable not using it, and I don't want to test it to breaking point, I tested it with two adult bike and one child bike, I just can't imagine putting 4 adult bikes on there and no strap! I wouldn't even try it as it is now.
You can't open your boot once this is on, but if you have only three bikes on you can. If you un tighten the handle bars and twist them sideways.
I need to work out how much my bikes weight too, because I think the max is 60kg...Read more ›
