Men in Black

This imaginative summer comedy from director Barry Sonnenfeld (Get Shorty) is a lot of fun, largely on the strength of Will Smith's engaging performance as the rookie partner of a secret agent (Tommy Lee Jones) assigned to keep tabs on Earth-dwelling extraterrestrials. There's lots of comedy to spare in this bright film, some of the funniest stuff found in the margins of the major action. (A scene with Smith's character being trounced in the distance by a huge alien while Jones questions a witness is a riot.) The inventiveness never lets up, and the cast--including Vincent D'Onofrio doing frighteningly convincing work as an alien occupying a decaying human--hold up their end splendidly.--Tom Keogh

Men in Black II

More remake than sequel, Men in Black II safely repeats everything that made Men in Black the blockbuster hit of 1997. That's fine if you loved the original's fresh humour, weird aliens and loopy ingenuity, but as sequels go, it's pure déjà vu. Make-up wizard Rick Baker is the only MIB alumnus who's trying anything new, while director Barry Sonnenfeld and costars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones (as alien-fighting agents Jay and Kay, respectively) are on autopilot with an uninspired screenplay. The quest of a multi-tentacled alien--on Earth in the form of Lara Flynn Boyle--for the light of Zartha requires Jay to deneuralize Kay, whose restored memory contains the key to saving the planet. The tissue-thin premise allows all varieties of special effects--mostly familiar, with some oddly hilarious new stuff tossed in for good measure. Certainly enjoyable as a popcorn distraction, but the MIB magic has worn a bit thin. --Jeff Shannon

Cool 9 Aug 2007
Format:DVD
These two films are briliant because their not from the point of veiw that aliens are big scary monsters their just normal. Its about how aliens are just trying to live their lives on Earth. Will Smith is great in the films aswell as he brings some real funny moments but the one liners and reactions of tommy lee jones are the best. Loads of extra stuff aswell. Including how all the aliens were made because their not all fake looking CGI things. The films have got something for everyone.

The thrilling double, high-budget, action/adventeure contains surely Will Smith's finest acting performance to date, and a superb Tommy Lee Jones. The story, set around the MiB, an organisation set up to keep aliens on earth secret, is well explored and woven. The first of the films is the superior, with an evil alien after "Orion's Belt" disgusting enough to make you wretch. The story is predictable, yet the overall impression of the film is excitable and enjoyable. The second is set a few years later, with again the acting talents of the first. This time the graphics take a higher role in the film, including a huge bug that lives in the subway system. tommy Lee Jones is revived from the ignorance of alien life after the end of the previous pic, and again has to fight to save the world from some extra-terrestrials. The viewing audience is large, with a rating of PG, so that anyone from 6-96 can enjoy this hollywood movie. Enjoy!

Funny!!
Both films in a nice black box. I prefer the first film as it's hilarious- but the second one is good too. Good special effects, and great cast.

Fun in a box
Two dvds that just encompass light entertainment. Great effects, a fun concept and good actors at the helm. An enjoyable nights entertainment.
