When i wanted to buy a new memory stick for my sony dsc-p200 cyber-shot, the shop at the airport told me i had to throw it away and buy a new one.
this adaptor allows you to use the newest smaller memory cards in the older larger memory stick equipped cameras. you simply slide the new one in the adaptor and it extends the size to the old version. I bought a few just in case they get lost and one day don't produce them any more. For as long as my cyber shot works fine, don't see the point in buying a new one.

Over all I'm fairly satisfied with the products functionality. The speed is OK, well a lot faster than using a USB cable. A few things bother me though.
1) I'm pretty sure it's not a genuine Sony adapter. You can see that on the build quality. (If it is genuine than I'm very disappointed with Sony) 2) I have trouble ejecting the adapter from my laptop memory card holder. One time I almost couldn't get it out at all. The problem is the bit on the adapter where the plastic part connects to the metal part is not in-line (flat), this gets hooked on the inside of the reader and then I have to push down fairly hard to get it unjammed again. Personally I wouldn't buy this product again, try going for the other adapters.

Worked perfectly for me.
I don't see how this (mine came from Bagnew) can be anything BUT a genuine Sony product: it has all the right logos, and the build quality seems perfectly fine. Have a look at the pics I've uploaded and judge for yourself, but no complaints from me at all.
