First of all, I have to say that I bought ours directly from Hypnia - at a higher cost than this. However, they only do one version of the 10" King Size model so I bought another one from SLEEP TIGHT MEMORY FOAM for my Son and when I compare them, they are identical.
By the way, I believe there are several companies - all trading under different names - that are essentially the same company providing these Hypnia mattresses. Obviously there is HYPNIA, there is SLEEP TIGHT, there is ZLEEPS (I think), there is MEMORY FOAM SALES, there is MEMORY FOAM SHOP, there is GREAT MEMORY FOAM... and goodness knows how many more.
Anyway, down to the review. First of all, I can agree with virtually all the comments already made - even on the negative reviews. Indeed, the mattress stinks initially (though not "toxic", certainly unpleasant - but it dissipated over about a month, and there is no smell at all now). Also, the memory foam layer may not be quite as thick as they tell us. True, underneath the cover, it IS simply a thick layer of "reflex" foam (not cheap foam as stated elsewhere) covered by a 2 to 3 inch layer of memory foam, and it certainly isn't the most beautiful piece of construction you will ever see. Plus, I must admit that it IS more difficult to get out of bed (for two reasons... first being you sink in to it, so there is no resistance when pushing yourself up, and the second is it's so darn comfortable). Some people complain about the "heat" build up, but we have not found that to be an issue in any way (it's slight, that's all).
However, what really matters is the ultimate effect on you when sleeping on it. All memory foam mattresses are this basic construction, though some might have three layers of differing foams and they might be perfectly "glued" together - but does this really matter too much ?
We bought ours because I was continually suffering from back and joint problems every morning, which we assumed must be because of the mattress we had. This was a very expensive pocket sprung mattress - where we even tried the feather topper route to see if it made any difference to me.
We considered memory foam for a long time - but the so called "good" ones were very expensive, and we didn't want to waste £500 quid if we couldn't get on with it.... so having researched for ages, decided to buy this HYPNIA mattress as a trial really - just to see if we could actually sleep on memory foam.
Well, my Wife loved it straight away - but I simply couldn't get on with it at all (I hated it in fact). However, the upside was that the back problems and hip problems virtually disappeared - so I persevered with it. I can honestly say that it took me the best part of a month before I was actually happy with it, and I am now sooo used to it that I now find conventional beds awkward. To be honest, I find that if I sleep on my back then I still sometimes get the back problems - but sleeping on your side virtually eliminates that, for me anyway.
Overall, I certainly wouldn't go back to a conventional mattress ever again.
If you are seriously interested in trying out memory foam, then the cost of this one makes it possible at a budget price. I disagree with those that say "you get what you pay for" on this one - I suggest they need to look closely at the more expensive mattresses before coming to that conclusion (as many of those are no better made - I have looked at them).
We have had ours for nearly a year now, and there is no saggging whatsoever - still as flat as a pancake. This might last you the ten years it's guaranteed for - and at that stage you can go and spend more money if you wish. Personally, I would probably have another one of these.
If you are new to memory foam, as my title says STICK WITH IT, and give it at least a month before you write it off... I'm glad I did.
Thanks.... David
