Format: Hardcover
It's still a great McKee book, wonderfully illustrated in his signature style.

As promised in Melric and the Sorceror, the evil Sondrak is back. And this time he is stealing animals from the kingdom (petnapping) to try an gain Melric's job (he seems quite desperate for the position, there can't be much call for magicians there).

There are lots of intricate scenes to explore (making this a better individual than group/class read) and adorable animals - the Troon is great, but definitely underused.

My son didn't quite follow the plot (he's only three), but did still enjoy reading this with me. Probably because he's familiar with all the characters and the style of drawing. He found it funny but I think it would better suit the 4+ age group.

I wanted to see more of Sondrak - last time we saw more of his evil magic. And definitely more of the Troon next time, I hope. And when will Melric's sister witch get more of a role?

Helps if you've read one of the other Melric books first as the key characters are recurring ones.
