This is the follow-up to Bygone Days' brilliant CD "Journey into Melody" (BYD 77058) which presented 29 radio favourites from 1949 to 1959. This falls slightly later, from 1952 to 1960, and the music is every bit as vibrant. In fact, if you're not prepared for what's coming, the opening track will jolt you upright! These orchestral pieces are the light music equivalent of what Sir Adrian Boult used to call "Lollipops". They are played by Stanley Black, Frank Chacksfield, Frank Cordell, Ron Goodwin, Max Jaffa, Joe Loss, Mantovani, Ray Martin, George Melachrino, Tony Osborne, Norrie Paramor, Cyril Stapleton, and Sidney Torch, all of whose names were a byword for excellence. There is a delightfully cosmopolitan flavour to the mix, sound quality is superb, and I cannot recommend this too highly.
