I bought this for my daughter (age 2) and I have been seriously impressed with this toy, which was very popular even when she was ill and disinterested in almost everything. I suspect any fan of Goldilocks would very much approve and it would be suitable for girls and boys alike.
This is a simple puzzle, but the range of pieces with 5 different faces, tops and bottoms for each bear, gives plenty of scope for dressing them and telling stories. I can see we will get plenty of mileage from it. As it's wooden, it's robust and should withstand a lot of play. The 45 pieces fit neatly in the box, divided into three compartments - one for each bear. The board slides on top as a lid, so it's a good toy for travelling and easy to pack away. I also prefer that it is not linked to a particular TV character because I will have enough problems when Peppa Pig falls out of favour.
The only things to you need to be aware of are (and here I echo the view of one or two other reviewers):
- The pieces are wooden but, I think, the images are printed on paper and stuck on. Not good for children who nibble on their toys.
- The five expressions show, very roughly: sleep; happiness; sadness; anger and shock/surprise. This is obviously great for teaching about emotions (particularly using the Goldilocks story) but if you are selecting a face at random, your bear will probably be having a bad day. I would have preferred another positive emotion, possibly where they are laughing or something.
Very good value for less than a tenner!
