Product Description

CD Description

· After starting out in a career in musical education, Melba Moore turned her attention to performing, and thank god she did! Tony Award winner Melba Moore has been blowing audiences away ever since she first appeared in the hit Broadway musical Hair.

· Born in 1945 into a musical family, the daughter of big band leader and saxophonist, Teddy Hill and R&B singer Bonnie Davis, Beatrice Melba Smith began adopted the stage name Melba Moore. Although she loved to act her first love was music and she later decided to focus on a recording career. During the time of releasing her first two albums Melba Moore picked up a Grammy Nomination for Best New Artist.

· 1978 saw the release of Melba Moore's first album for Epic Records, MELBA. The production duties were left in the extremely capable hands of Philly Soul production duo, McFadden & Whitehead. The highly successful cover of the Bee Gees penned, YOU STEPPED INTO MY LIFE became the albums biggest success and climbed to #5 on the US Dance charts and #12 on the R&B charts. The album itself had long running chart success and peaked at #35 on the US R&B charts. Second single PICK ME UP,I'LL DANCE also enjoyed huge club success, becoming a Paradise Garage staple thanks to Larry Levan.

· BBR is proud to present this fantastic album, newly remastered and lovingly re-packaged complete with liner notes and brand new interviews with Melba Moore and legendary remixer, John Luongo especially for this release along with added bonus content.

An Epitome of R&B Majesty! 5 April 2011
By Starr S. - Published on Amazon.com

Having had a successful early career on Broadway in the musicals "Hair" and "Purlie," Melba Moore has, musically, transcended many trends including Classic Soul, Disco, Old School R&B, Rock, Gospel and Dance Music as of late. This album, her first for Epic/CBS in 1978 would showcase a more "Disco" vibe, but also stay true to its R&B roots via production from the legendary McFadden & Whitehead team. Boasting the hits, "You Stepped into My Life," a Disco-fied remake of an original Bee Gees composition and "Pick Me Up, I'll Dance," another creamy Disco song, Moore was right where she needed to be at a time when Soul music was gearing itself more toward the dancefloor and this showed in the subsequent chart positions. Sadly, the latter performed better on the Disco chart than it did like the former on the R&B/Top 100 charts. Prior to the release of this gorgeous remaster, years and years had passed seeing this long forgotten album in the dusty, moldy bins of used record stores wishing that ONE DAY it would see a much deserved remastering/reissue. The team at BBR thus injected this very important re-release with lots of TLC and a wonderfully detailed booklet complete with essay and an interview with Melba herself! One listen to "Together Forever," and there won't be a doubt in your mind that Moore, much like her colleages, Cole, Khan, Knight and Labelle is ALSO an epitome of R&B majesty, just more quietly so. She is one of R&B's truly hidden vocal treasures.

A Great Album Reissued 18 July 2011

I bought this CD primarily for the song, "There is No Other." I'd been looking for this recording for some time, and the only place that I could find it was on YouTube. The CD has been superbly remastered; also, the liner notes mention other CDs that have been reissued.

Excellent release from Ms. Moore beautifully remastered 26 Jun 2011

MELBA was the first album Melba Moore did for Epic and was released in 1978. At this time most artists were putting a couple of disco tracks on their albums. Sometimes the rest was filler or just basic material. Not the case here. This album, under the producing guidance of McFadden & Whitehead, proved to be an ultimate display of Ms. Moore's multi-faceted talent and range. The requisite disco tracks turned out to be shining moments. Her disco version of YOU STEPPED INTO MY LIFE was pure magic and lit up the charts and dance floor. She had so much fun with it and provided just as much of a winning performance with the other disco track PICK ME UP, I'LL DANCE.

The rest of the album was a huge showcase and made her fans very happy while bringing in many new fans. Ms. Moore can sing pop, r&b, soul, gospel with an emotive ability and awe-inspiring range. She can be playful and sweet on the dance or pop tracks but when she belts she reaches an intensity level and strength not paralleled by many other singers. Two of the ballads here show this. TOGETHER FOREVER is the highlight of the whole album with a building intensity and a last note that will leave the listener breathless. The closing WHERE DID YOU EVER GO is also a ballad truly showcasing Ms. Moore at her best. Other tracks HAPPY and IT'S HARD NOT TO LIKE YOU are fun soulful pop. So many sides of Ms. Moore are shown on this album and it proves to be one of the best recordings in her repertoire.

This cd is produced by BBR and gets their now expected magic treatment. The digital remastering is perfect, there are extensive liner notes and 3 great bonus tracks. 3 different versions of YOU STEPPED INTO MY LIFE and PICK ME UP, I'LL DANCE round up the cd as a joyful listening experience. Over 60 minutes of the great Melba Moore at her very best. Thanks BBR for releasing this cd with such class. Highly recommended to fans of soul, r&b and disco.
