5.0 out of 5 stars Very good, very enjoyable, Bring on Series 3! 12 May 2012

Format:DVD
A very likable series, one of Japans finest.

Contains Episodes 1-14
Audio: English/Japanese
Subtitles: English
Region: 2

This series is split up into two major story arcs, the first being the endless eight story and the second is the SOS Brigade movie making story.

Being a fan of English dubs I watched this first and can say it is quite good, all the original cast from the first series return to reprise their roles and put on a faultless performance.

The first story on this disc is quite fun, featuring a Time Traveling plot with Kyon and Mikuru going back in time, meeting a younger Haruhi and again an older Mikuru.

The second arc is the Endless Eight arc, reality is repeating itself and none of the characters realise it until too late. Their days repeatings 10s of thosands of times, they meet and discuss their situation but ultimately time loops again and again until they find out the reason.

The third arc is about Haruhi and her movie making idea as seen in Series 1 episode 0. The SOS brigade is now making a movie with little to no sense but they carry on anyway, the movie they are making is purely random with the lines and situations being made up by Haruhi on the spot. And of course reality starts to change.

Although the Endless Eight being 8 episodes is hard to watch in one sitting, I personally decided to take it 4 episodes per day, it made it watchable to me.

In general this series is a very good and a must have for Haruhi fans.

It also features a very catchy opening theme song.

Okay, it would be stupid to say this was the perfect series, but ever worse would be to dismiss it outright..

So I'm not going to sugar coat it, Endless Eight is AWFUL, there's no way around it, it's Haruhi Suzumiya does Groundhog Day, but to discount the WHOLE series just because of that is a grave mistake, as EVERY other episode in this season is pure gold.

Bamboo Leaf Rapsody begins to fill in some of the blanks we have, regarding the 'events' of Two years prior, which seems to have been the start of Haruhi's powers.

Then we have The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya, a 5 parter detailing the filming of 'The Adeventures of Mikuru Asahina' (also known as Episode 0) and I can say HANDS DOWN they are the best five episodes in the whole of Haruhi, and I'm counting season 1 as well.

So does this season match up to the first? no, probably not, with 1/2 the season wasted by Endless Eight it would be silly to say it was as good as the first, but is this season worth buying? HELL YES, I've already put my preorder in. I would buy it for The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya alone.

3.0 out of 5 stars Seconded 20 May 2011
Format:DVD
I agree with the reviewer below, it's probably best to skip the Endless Eight story arc! It's basically the same thing over and over again (8x), but with slight variations such as: characters wearing different clothes, certain dialogue altered, minor changes in scenes/events etc. It's incredibly tedious... Then (to me, at least) the final outcome/solution is lame. It would probably be best to read the light novel version of Endless Eight as it's only a short story that lasts no more than 30 pages (can be found in The Rampage of Haruhi Suzumiya - to be released 7 July).

However, the other 2 story arcs/episodes are great. It's just a shame the Endless Eight arc lets this particular season down. On the plus side, it does contain The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya and Nyoron! Churuya-san, which I haven't watched yet; I don't even think the American version contained those.

Plenty of Haruhi goodness, what with this deluxe box set collection and the movie coming out at the end of the year! I am a bit baffled with the 15 rating, though. As I haven't seen the two bonus series I can't comment on those, but from what I remember of Haruhi season 2, it didn't seem anymore risque than the first season.

And if Manga Entertainment have got the rights to Haruhi from Beez Entertainment, then it seems a bit promising that maybe, one day, they'll also acquire the rights to Monster from Viz! I'm hoping... :P
