BIOGRAPHY
MEL CHURCHER was an actor and broadcaster for many years. Her work included leading roles at the Royal National Theatre, New Shakespeare Company and extensive film, radio and television work.
She is now best known as an international acting, dialogue, voice and presentation coach and has run workshops and given lectures all over the world. She has been voice and text coach for The Royal Shakespeare Company, The Open Theatre at Regents Park, Shakespeare's Globe, The Young Vic, Manchester Royal Exchange. Birmingham Repertory Theatre and The Royal Court and has served on the Council of the British Voice Association.
Mel is also one of the top acting and dialogue coaches in movies. Her work includes The Last Station, Control, King Arthur, Danny the Dog/Unleashed, The Fifth Element, The Count of Monte Cristo and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, working with actors such as Gerard Butler, Daniel Craig, Stephen Dillane, Paul Giamatti, Angelina Jolie, Milla Jovovich, Keira Knightley, Jet Li, Mads Mikkelson, Clive Owen, Sam Riley, Stellan Skarsgard, John Turturro, Jon Voight and Ray Winstone.
She runs film acting workshops for professional actors world-wide and regularly teaches in Cologne and Berlin and at the Actors Centre in London. Having directed and taught in most of the major London drama colleges, she still regularly runs screen acting workshops for LAMDA and Central School of Speech & Drama where she advised on the setting up of the MA in Screen Acting. Mel is also a theatre director with her own company, Trojan's Trumpet.
Mel has an MA in Performing Arts (Mddx), an MA in Voice Studies (C.S.S.D.) and an Institute of Phonetics Association Diploma She has written numerous articles on voice and her book Acting for Film: Truth 24 Times a Second was published by Virgin Books in 2003 and is now a set book for many major drama schools.
