5.0 out of 5 stars Best traditional irish music, 24 Nov 2002
By
This review is from: Meitheal (Audio CD)
"Meitheal" by Seamus Begley and Stephen Cooney is probably one of the greatest recordings of irish traditional music and song recorded.
The pairing of Begley and Cooney is exciting, virtuoso, soulful and powerful mix of music and song, the production is superb and the musicianship outstanding.
Stephen Cooney's Guitar playing has changed the way irish traditional music is played, and has inspired many young players, the guitar is simply stunning, his playing supports the Accordion and song of seamus Begley with a dynamic, amazing percussive and uplifting style that has so much emotion and feel.

The accordion and singing is amazing, Seamus Begley and Stephen Cooney play polcas, Reels, Jigs, slow songs and 3 live tracks, the Polcas Track 12, recorded live, are simply the best example of the west of ireland style of polca's iv'e ever heard.

This album is a must for any fans of Irish traditional music, and for anyone with an interest in guitar playing, Stephen cooney has a style all his own,and is clearly a musical genius and master of his instruments.
