  • Product Description

To equip a cajon with fully adjustable snare wires is an original MEINL innovation and proves yet again MEINL's leading R/D status in the worldwide percussion scene. The snares touch the frontplate from the inside and deliver the classical cajon sound, which is requisite in Flamenco music. A knurled knob adjusts the amount of pressure used to press the snare wires against the frontplate. Rattling ranging between light and sensitive to very loud can be achieved through adjustment. The entire snare unit can even be turned off completely. With its frontplate made from finest American White Ash (Fraxinus americana L.), this cajon lives up to the highest standards with regards to sound and quality. Material Frontplate: American White Ash (Fraxinus americana L.) Resonating body : Rubber Wood (Hevea brasiliensis Muell.-Arg.) Features Adjustable top corners Internal, adjustable snare wires Relocated knob Padded sitting surface Wide sound options Finish Matt

    5.0 out of 5 stars A great cajon 14 Mar 2011
    Verified Purchase
Before you buy this particular model I suggest you do research and find a cajon with the sound you want; it definitely isn't a cheap purchase. However if you like the sound of this particular model then I would definitely recommend it. The build quality is very good, and even under my hefty weight the box feels sturdy and strong, even whilst leaning back. The snares are very quick and easy to apply/remove and don't rattle when disengaged. It's loud enough for an acoustic guitar or piano, but if you are amplifying then the soundhole in the back is big enough to drop a microphone in should you wish.

In conclusion, if you're not sure which cajon you want then go and do some research, watch some videos, listen to some models etc. However if you're thinking of this one then I'd heartily recommend it.

    5.0 out of 5 stars I love it! 30 Sep 2010

This is an amazing instrument and Meinl makes a great entry-level cajon. It doesn't feel cheap and it still gives great sound. The adjustable snare mechanic is a little strange at first, but after a few minutes of adjusting I was able to easily find a spot where I could have both snare tones and pure, deep bass hits distinct from each other. While I have not yet used this instrument outside, I do know that it works wonders for impromptu sessions indoors.

If you are looking for your first cajon, you have found it! If you already have one of your own, then you shouldn't be reading reviews, you know what you are looking for already, and maybe this is it.

If you are thinking of getting the cheaper Cajon STOP! This one is well worth the additional $89! It simply sounds awesome and the built quality as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars my review of the meinl snare cajon with american white ash front 5 Nov 2010

Wonderful sound, perfect condition, quick shipping. 5 Stars.
Snares are adjustable, screws on top corners are adjustable for snap. I've used this about 5 times in public so far, I usually play guitar/sing and have a friend play along with the Cajon. It's a really easy instrument to pick up and learn how to play quickly. You don't have to put tons of time and effort into it like you do for guitar or a drum set.
It arrived on my front door step in perfect condition in about.. 4 days, after I ordered it. I've gotten many compliments on it, and a few people i know actually want to buy one for themselves. In my opinion, and the opinion of all the people who have seen me play it, it is well worth what I payed for it on Amazon.com. This is truly an amazing instrument that is so versatile, it can be played with just about any type of music.
    Without a doubt, 5 stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars No Instructions 28 Dec 2013

Would have been nice if some paperwork had come with it. We received no directions for anything. Even though there is a knob there doesn't appear to be any action inside the cajon when the knob is turned. Haven't been able to find anyone playing/tuning the same exact instrument online.

    1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed 16 Aug 2012
    By Kathleen N. - Published on Amazon.com

    Hi,

I was very excited when I received the item and found it to be well packed and with no damage at all. It seemed to be well made but was made with thinner stock than I expected. I am sure that is a main way to keep costs of construction down. I liked the adjustable wires, but it took me a little while to figure them out. when I sat down to play it, I was very disappointed at the poor sound that it produced. It was thin and dead. I have played others and they are very different. I also found the front plate to be loose and the adjustment screws seemed to be either stripped or made no difference in the sound of the instrument. based on other reviews I think that I may have received a defective one but was not willing to try again. I am saving my money and plan to buy a hand made instrument that I know sounds great. Amazon allowed me to return it for a full refund, for which I was very glad .
