Judging by the 5-star reviews Meguiars Gold Class Wash has had here, either I'm missing something or I've bought a knock-off bottle, but either way I think I'm in for a slating because I really fail to see what the fuss is about. I bought some on the recommendation of the owner of one of my local garages (and also the local Meguiars dealer), who raved about it as what he uses on all of his high-end car restorations.
It's true that it looks nice, smells great, is extremely slick and does an adequate job at cleaning my car, but I find it hard to get it into a good lather unless I go some way over the recommended dilution rate, and it has a habit of leaving fairly prominent streaks on my car post-wash. Arguably the most important job, that of actually cleaning my car, it does quite well in a "meh" kind of way, leaving no dirt but no 'wow' factor either. It may be that this is all down to the hardness (or softness) of our water in contrast with that available to the other reviewers, in which case it wouldn't be the fault of the shampoo, but that would be just a guess.
After using the Gold Class a few times I relegated it just to giving my car a pre-wash foaming and switched proper cleaning duties over to Duragloss 901, which makes a richer lather with less liquid, sheets water off beautifully, leaves very few streaks and gives a good shine without polish or wax. The only problem with using the Gold Class this way is that it doesn't foam particularly well so I need to use a lot to get an adequate coating, not to mention that it's a bit like using a solid gold boot-scraper to clean your mucky old loafers.
