If there was an award for not just the campest but the most blatantly out of the closet action movie ever made, MegaForce would be a clear winner. A Hal Needham film that even Burt Reynolds wouldn't go near - and he made Stroker Ace - it's like someone asked South Park's Big Gay Al to make a Summer blockbuster. There may be lots of supposedly state of the art jeeps and motorbikes that look suspiciously like standard models with a bit of plywood around the bodywork painted to look like armour to crash through or leap over inanimate exploding objects to keep the small children happy but the high-fiving leotard-and-sweatband clad members of the secret army America keeps in reserve to tackle foreign terrorists like Henry Silva look like they'd be more at home high-kicking it in a Broadway chorus line, and that's just the men (somewhat suspiciously Persis Khambatta is the only woman in the entire film, and she's not allowed to join in with the boys' fun because she doesn't think like they do). Certainly Barry Bostwick's All-American hands-on-hips disco dude hero seems like he's still so stuck in post-transformation Rocky Horror mode that you almost expect him to start singing "Don't dream it, be it." As for poor Michael Beck, it must have come as a horrible shock for him after following his breakthrough role in The Warriors with infamous roller-disco musical Xanadu that there was a campfest that could destroy his credibility as a potential leading man even more decisively.

It may be intended to be tongue in cheek but the result is more like being French kissed by an overexcited Great Dane that's just eaten something with flies buzzing round it that it found in the park.
