Great blocks, but useless basket 7 Aug. 2014

These are really great blocks. My 11 month old son loves the colors and the size. He also loves banging them together. These are a very fun bath toy!

However, what I don't like is the basket that holds all of the blocks. It has a sucker cup back, as if to attach it to the wall of the tub, however, all of the blocks don't appropriately fit inside. I'm a little baffled as to why the manufacturer made such a small "storage" basket. The blocks only fit inside if you accurately put each block inside. Which, as we all know, after bath time is not time for organization of toys.

Tips too easily 10 Aug. 2014

My toddlers love the Mega Bloks First Builders Big Building Bag. The Build N' Splash blocks are compatible with it.

-There are only a few pieces included in this toy and you pretty much have to assemble the blocks in one way for it to work.
-The assembled tower is pretty tippy. The red octopus base is narrow which causes instability. Blocks don't stack tightly onto the red octopus or each other so the whole tower will collapse with a little bump. The purple octopus is not a full "female" block so it just sits lightly on top of the structure making it easy to knock off. This is a toy that needs to be handled gently to avoid the frustration of getting tipped over regularly.
-Once assembled, the water feature works well and is fun to watch.
-The blue basket is sturdy and well made.

This toy is limited in function and is unstable unless handled gently. If you already have the basic building Megabloks, this water set might be a decent add-on.

Great fun! 13 Sept. 2014

I’m a firm believer that you just about can’t go wrong with legos. We’ve yet to pass from these larger blocks, due to an 18 month old that puts everything in his mouth. (We found a rock in his poo diaper. I’m not risking a lego!) I’m looking forward to sharing the imaginative world of smaller legos with my boys one day soon. In the meantime, I’m thrilled that we have these kinds of lego sets for them to enjoy.

With this set comes a basket that will suction to the bath/shower wall, and allow the legos to drain in between baths. It’s been hanging on strong for us. It also has a large red octopus that is supposed to suction to the bottom of the tub, and be the base of the tower. We couldn’t get it to stick to the bottom of our tub well, but it is textured, so that may have been an issue. When not in use, we stick him on the wall beside the basket, and he sticks well. There are 3 regular blocks and 3 blocks that have undersea creatures on them(a starfish “wheel”, a fish “drainer”, and a shark that pours). The top of the tower is a purple octopus, and it’s where you pour the first water to cause a chain of events.

The blocks that have creatures on them have eyes that are NOT stickers. Some of our block sets have stickers as eyes/features, but these are made for water use.

My boys have greatly enjoyed it!

Mega Bloks fun, suction cup not so great 15 Aug. 2014

I had two very excited children open this up. They immediately ran for the bathtub and built it from the ground up in the bathtub. We filled the bathtub up and they were already getting a little frustrated as they couldn't get the bottom of the tower to stay and it kept floating away. They built the full tower and could only get the all of the cascading water actions to work with one configuration. It was a good problem solving event for them.

We tried putting it different places and although we got the bottom to adhere but the tower tips easily.

These are regular mega blocks except for the special water pieces, so they are very easy to stack. All of the water pieces came wrapped in plastic inside the basket.

The blue basket is a great feature, it makes it very convenient to gather all of the pieces after the bath.

A lot of fun for toddlers, and great for the imagination 1 Oct. 2014

My one year-old niece is still a bit young and uncoordinated to build with these without help, but the look of wonder on her face when helping me stack them, as well as when she's watching the water trickle down when finished, is priceless, and makes these Mega Bloks more than worth the price. She's slowly learning how to stack them herself, but for now she just enjoys watching the waterfall, "assisting" me with the building process, and playing with the individual pieces, "talking" to them like they're her friends. This toy should be perfect for her in a few months when her coordination is better. The only negative, as other reviewers have remarked on, is that the storage basket is a little small, making it like a puzzle to get all the pieces back in. Other than that, a great, fun toy for toddlers.
