A novel and different add-on for flight simulator!, 17 Jun 2008
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
I was more excited about buying this software than usual, as it was the first scenery-changing add-on I had bought for flight simulator. Understandably I was apprehensive about getting this over an aircraft add-on. Installation was very quick and immediately took effect when starting up simulator.
You'll have to see it to beleive it when I tell you that 'Heathrow airport' literally becomes...Heathrow airport! The true-to-life taxiways are a refreshing sight to someone who was used to seeing the same old banal taxi lanes at the default airports. The accurate photoreal terminal buildings with the unique control tower really makes you feel like you have done flight sim justice. Other great touches (which I my self like many others take pride in), such as 3D localiser beacons and approach lighting make landing much more exciting. The two runways look gracefully aged by the array of tyre marks running down the centre line. The selection of mirrors and electronic guidence devices make parking fun and realistic.
On the flip-side, the static traffic is, well, static. The graphics of the added planes are below standard and don't add a great deal of realism to the game (Terminal 5 is occupied by about three BA 737s). A much smaller issue, is that the ILS frequencies and course headings in the airport information box on the map have been deleted, menaing that there will be nothing on the arrivals page of the FMC if you using a detailed add-on aircraft. All said and done, this problem is mitigated by the mini Jeppeson schematics, which not only provide you with this information, but gives you a plethora of performance tables and appr/dep maps. This takes the form of a small booklet which is included in the case.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this add-on, it's visually a great thing to look at, but be warned, once turning Heathrow into a mega airport, you'll never want to fly anywhere else!

Good addition but you need a monster rig, 18 Jan 2008
Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
Mega airport London Heathrow installs without fuss, when you start FSX, it rebuilds the scenery files (which doesn't take long at all).
In game, flying over Heathrow, you can appreciate its size, with all the terminal buildings and Airplane ramps, it has great detail, but of course all this details comes at a price, the frame rates take a big hit, you can see my PC specification below, and taxing around the airport brings the fps down to six compared to the normal FSX Heathrow which i can achieve around 15fps (so half a loss).
You will have to decide if you can live with that, I personally uninstalled the product and will wait until I have upgraded my PC specification.
Pro's:
Unfussy installation.
Fair Price (If of course, you will use the airport often).
Good detail terminal buildings, jetways (etc).
Con's:
Big frame rate hit.
My PC Spec's:
Intel Core2Duo E6300, 2GB Corsair RAM, ATI Radeon X1950 Pro, Realtek HD 8 channel audio, HP 19" LCD Widescreen.
FSX with SP2.

Fantastic in FS 2004, 16 May 2008
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I am running both FS 2004 and FSX on my PC, and in FSX, my PC does struggle with this product. I still give it 5 stars though, because it struggled with the default Heathrow scenery anyway, so I think the poor performance is more to do with the programming of FSX, rather than Aerosoft's programming.
If your PC will run the default Heathrow scenery smoothly in FS 2004, it will probably cope pretty well with this. I have a fairly high spec machine (quad core, 2 GB fast RAM, Gainward 8800 graphics card), but it still struggles with the bigger airports in FSX. It runs this like a dream in FS2004 though, even with tons of AI aircraft present. If you like flying in and out of Heathrow on FS2004, you're missing out if you don't have this.
