Product Description

The most fearsome predators in history…are no longer history.

The Philippine Sea Plate: The most unexplored realm on the planet.  Hidden beneath its primordial crust lies the remains of the Panthalassa, an ocean that dates back 220 million years.  Vast and isolated, the Panthalassa is inhabited by nightmarish sea creatures long believed extinct.

Tanaka Institute, Monterey, CA:  Four years have passed since Angel, the 76-foot, 100,000 pound Megalodon, birthed a litter of pups far too numerous and aggressive to keep in one pen.  Fortunately, a Dubai royal prince who is building the largest aquarium in the world seeks to purchase two of the “runts”—if Jonas Taylor’s twenty-one year-old son, David, will be their handler.  Jonas reluctantly agrees, and David is off to Dubai for the summer of his life, not realizing that he is being set up to lead an expedition that will hunt down and capture the most dangerous creatures ever to inhabit the Earth!

Jurassic Sea-Park 6 Jan 2010
By I. R. Kerr TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover
The 4th and best of Steve Alten's Meg series.
The main characters from the previous 3 books are back; both human, with Jonas Taylor and the staff at the Tanaka Institute and Lagoon, and animal with Angel and her brood of Megalodon pups. It even features an ex Bond girl in a supporting role.
This book takes us deep into the Pacific with the discovery of an undersea region teeming with life forms that make their prehistoric land living cousins seem fairly mild by comparison. Alten soon ratchets up the action as a rich Arab pursues his dream of creating the world's greatest marine park filled with creatures long thought to be extinct and entices Jonas' son David to assist them in a safari to the deepest depths of the Pacific.
From the outset the book holds nothing back and the savage natures of the beasts is apparent within the first few pages and the body count soon starts to mount leading to confrontation with animal rights activists. There are a series of small black & white drawings throughout that are a nice addition but don't really add that much to the story.
What appealed to me most was the introduction of several different species of marine life, some inquisitive others more menacing and ending in a battle royal between two of the most dangerous creature that have ever swum in Earth's oceans. There's also a nice nod towards Jaws with the discovery of a long lost ship that will be familiar to fans of that book/film.
The last page announcement that The Taylors will return in Meg 5: Night Stalkers will delight all fans of this series.

Having read the previous 3 MEG books in order, I couldn't imagine how Steve Alten could take this concept any further. I underestimated him. This is possibly the best book of the lot and keeps the series fresh with the promise of at least one more Megalodon novel to come in the future. An absolutely brilliant story with great set pieces and why the film studios are dragging their heels over the making of the movie I don't know. If I could have given this book six stars I would have. It adds to the experience to have read the previous books but it is not essential and you could quite easily enjoy Hell's Aquarium in it's own right.

Having been a fan of Steve Alten's Meg series for some time, I was desperate for the latest book. This is an amazing story. Just when you thought he couldn't top the last book, he completely pulls it out of the bag and comes back with a new story, some interesting plot twists and a whole new set of circumstances that create tension and drama. You simply can't stop turning the pages. I read this in a few hours because I couldn't put it down. If you haven't read his stuff before he writes really easily and each page leads you very nicely to the next. The subject matter is fascinating and he interjects science and facts into the story but it is all about the story and the characters and the drama. I loved this book and it is one I will re-read and re-read. This is definitely the best in the Meg series - bring on No 5 I say!!!!!! BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT! IF YOU LOVE SHARKS OR JAWS YOU'LL LOVE THIS FOR SURE!!
