Compelling... full of the right ingredients - passion, family saga, secrets, lies, manipulation, forbiddon love, friendship, jealousy, betrayal, countries and different lifestlyes, customs and characters having to adapt to them. I was totally fascinated with Sofia's story as the author did not portray her as a perfect porcelain doll - she has faults like everyone, and they make her the passionate person that she is, and that people can't help but love. She is stubborn, impatient, feisty and spoilt - but also witty, loyal, intelligent and warm. The relationship with her mother, the opposite to her, cold and steely, or so it would seem, is deeply moving, as they find out they perhaps have more in common than they really knew.

It also shows love to be complex, there is not always one right or wrong and one solution ... but it never dies.

This is a book for hapless romantics who believe in the meaning of true love. Set in the Argentinian pampas, it tells of one woman's quest to be with the man she truly loves. But it is more than that, it also tells of the trials and tribulations of living with a family who are less than understanding, a position most people have probably found themselves in at some time. This book has all the right ingredients for an unputdownable read - the romance tugs at your heartstrings without being too unrealistic, but the reality is something we can all relate to. By the end of the book you feel like you know every character in the book and have taken them to your heart.

Great! 17 Mar 2004

Format:Paperback
This is my favourite book by Santa Montefiore. The storyline is very good with enough twists, love, loss, laugh and tears to keep you going until the end. The characters are very well defined. It is a typical Santa Montefiore with the rich family / Argentina / England setting, but you won't be disappointed. I highly recommend it to anyone.
