Even Better Than I Remember 30 Nov 2011
By Edwin W. Skinner, Jr. - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Danny Wilson's MEET DANNY WILSON debut album is easily the best of Danny Wilson's (by the way: no one in the band is named Danny Wilson) meager output, far out-distancing the band's other efforts by leaps-and-bounds.

As they say, a band has a lifetime to put together their first album - but only a couple of years for the subsequent follow-ups. Stands to reason then, that this would be the best of the bunch and, spearheaded by the surprise hit "Mary's Prayer", this album hits like the missing link between Steely Dan's PRETZEL LOGIC & KATY LIED LP's.

While "Mary's Prayer" is worth the price alone (and, at this point, you can get this CD for a song), it by no means constitutes the albums' only quality material. Quirky songs about obscure, unknown subjects ("Davey"?; "Lorraine"?), trips into the astral sphere (steam trains to the Milky Way, anyone?) - all delivered on a jet stream of billowy, jazz-pop keep this collection bouncing around your cranium long after the last strains are heard.

It would be nice to see this re-issued with up-to-date sound and outtakes/live cuts - and who knows - maybe it will happen someday. Until then, lay down your 5-spot and pick this up if you have a chance . . .
