The complete first series of the popular wildlife programme. Narrated by Bill Nighy, the series follows a group of meerkats living in the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa. With no humans featured, film crews were housed in specially built sheds and successfully filmed inside a meerkat burrow using fibre-optic cameras.

Absolutely awesome.

I caught a few of the programmes on the Animal Planet channel, whilst working overseas in Azerbaijan and got immediately hooked. I searched for about 3 months until I found the whole series had been released.

Simply breath-taking Natural History, up close and personnel.

A long term study has given a fascinating insight into the family life of these small desert dwelling creatures.

Thoroughly recommended for young and old.

This is the best soap opera I have seen in ages.

Great characters - drama, tragedy, comedy, cuteness - treachery, sneaky affairs, family arguments - it has everything you'd find in your daily soap, only better. Meercats are undeniably cute and each episode is compulsively addictive. Some how, it gets you to care about a bunch of furry critters.

I find myself laughing and crying over their antics. It isn't overtaken by cuteness - life in the desert is hard and there are many as many heart breaking moments as there are heart warming. This is after all, reality TV - a kind of soap opera big brother as it were. The fact that it is real and you know it makes Meercat Manor even more endearing because you can really care and become caught up with the intricate goings on of meercat society. (Not much different from out own!)

Narrated by Bill Nighy - which I find strangely appropriate. He has a good voice for storytelling - the narration after all creates the story and gives voice to the furry 'actors'.

... if not half the time animals action would be accompanied by funny music. That does not fit. Nature's sound scenery would suit much better.
... if Bill Nighy would not try to sound the coolest man on earth. His voice is a complete contrast to the little creatures you see. Better let him narrate a documentary about great police work next time.
... if not after each scene the observation camera would be shown for some seconds. This must be a promotion but i didn't get the brand yet.

Bottom Line: Watch one episode a time to keep balance between annoyance and amusement. This film has some really nice pictures and the meerkats are wonderful to watch.
