The secret to a long running TV show in America is the art of rinsing and repeating the same things over and over again. Why break a formula that works? This often means that after a few seasons a show becomes increasingly samey and boring for the regular viewer until finally they stop watching. `Medium' Season 6 is well on its way to this point, but through a combination of good writing and interesting characters it still remains one of the most watchable science fiction shows on at the moment. Season 5 took the series in a new direction as both Alison Dubois and her husband Joe found themselves out of work. This shake up worked to reinvigorate the show, so it is a shame that the series reverts back to type as Alison gets her old job back.

Being back on familiar ground will be popular with some fans, as they will get their weekly murder mystery fix and indeed there are some standout episodes. Surprisingly most of the best episodes no longer follow Alison, but her children. The four actresses who play the three mini Dubois (es?) are given more to do and Sofia Vassilieva as Ariel is particularly good. The episodes that follow her burgeoning powers are the most impressive of the season and an area the show has yet to explore.

The dynamic within the family is as always one of the best elements of the season. Joe and Alison continue to portray one of the most realistic relationships on TV, even if one of them has the power to see the future. There is a definite sense of inertia in Season 6 and it makes sense that the show was axed midway through Season 7. However, even covering familiar territory will be enough for fans as being in the company of the Dubois(i?) is always fun.

As many people like me care about subtitles, I gotta say that it has indeed. But I think there is a lot to criticise on this season. Many of the episodes are as good as always but in other definitely screenwriters rushed to and end, braking all the rules we have followed for ages, the dead themselves have lost their mystery, talking too much, reasoning too much. I've never seen that in all seasons before and know I get why public left the program die, although be aware there is enough fun in the good episodes to justify getting the season. In the other hand the other character were better developed including the three young Dubuis who ere growing up and taking bigger part with some succeed, even Joe is given more lines out the main story, all great but does not hide the problem the screenwriters lacked more Ideas for our beloved Allison.

I was gutted that it was the last one though. But it was very exiting to watch and I would recommend to everyone.

I have watched Medium since it first began and it is an excellent US drama series. Partly based on real life medium Allison Dubois it is a crime drama with a supernatural element. Patricia Arquette is Allison, a lifelong psyhic who uses her dreams to help solve and prevent crimes. The show is brilliantly acted by Arquette and the rest of the cast including David Cubbit, Miguel Sandoval and especially Jake Weber as Allison's loyal but long suffering husmand Joe. The three young actresses who play the couples daughters are also very good. The show doesn't dwell too heavily on the supernatural side and feels more like a traditinal crime drama. It also has a fine sense of humor and this season showcases some of its best episodes including a homage to the classic horror Night of the Living Dead, and Allison becoming attached to an escaped piglet she has been dreaming about. All in all a very enjoyable show with a great ensemble cast.

CBS have packed up to five episodes on single layer DVD's.

The end result is a picture worse than that found on some satellite shopping channels.

With luck the UK release will be on dual layer 9Gb discs.

EDIT: 30/10/11

The above referred to the American release.

I now have the UK boxset and can confirm they are on dual layer DVD's offering an acceptable picture quality.

So Five Stars for UK Region 2 release and two Stars for Region 1 version.

Loved the series on TV. Sorry to see it end so really happy to be able to but the separate series. Great to see the extra bit with the cast members too.
